Ok, i just got back from a rage against the machine and queens of the stone age concert that was last night. Now i always knew tom morello was good....but seriously, he was unbelievable. So i was curious to see if he made it on the list of the 100 greatest guitarists. Sure enough, he was at number 26, which i would say is about right. But what i really wanted to ask about is this. Kurt Cobain is number 12 on the list. Nirvana is one of my favorite bands, and i think he's an excellent guitar player, but i was extremely surprised by this. What do you think?lilburtonboy748
Im guessing youre talking about the Rolling Stone one? That list is COMPLETE CRAP. EVH at 70? Randy Rhodes and Toni Iommi at 85 and 86? And the greatest tragedy on that list, Angus Young at 96? Not even close.

needs Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, Dave Mustaine, Mikael Akerfeldt, and quite a few more. Hell, I mean I don't even see Joe Satriani on that list! :([QUOTE="lilburtonboy748"]Ok, i just got back from a rage against the machine and queens of the stone age concert that was last night. Is this Rolling Stone's list? I didn't have much appreciation for that list. Anyone that lists Kirk Hammett that high in their list of greatest guitarists immediately frowned upon by me.JoshXXXXX
Tell me about it. Metallica = overrated

But the best on the list? I actually think Rolling Stone did a good job on the bottom half of the list. Still, the top half, not so much.

Ok, then nevermind what I said... I misread your post :P
Kurt Cobain? number 12?!!??!? If they ever made an actual thought out list of greatest guitarist kurt cobain wouldn't even be in the top 1000!ConManWithGun
I wouldn't go that far, he's definitely good, especially acoustic songs, but im just saying he doesnt deserve that. It just blew my mind that he was above eddie van halen or even tom morello. Tom isn't the best, but probably one of the most creative EVER, and same goes for Adam Jones from tool. But he did make the lost, so that was good.
Kurt Cobain sucked at guitar. Fact.
Tom Morello is the s**t. he should be in the top 20 guitarists on anyone's list
ak618
Um............no, he didn't suck. But yea, morello is great...it's cuz he has experience with so many different musical backgrounds.
Kurt's position is about right.Just listen to some of his solo's , notably from "In Bloom" ... genious.
As for Tom Morello , I think he should be in the top 20.Also Jack White is not ovverrated ... he is an amazing guitarist!
tom morello is ok i guess, but the best guitarists ever are never mentioned here becasue people here dont know much about them.
1. Robert fripp ( amazing guitarist in king crimsona nd his solo stuff, he has never been beat but is never mentioned on any list I have read)
2. John Mclaughlin ( from the mahavishnu orchestra, another guitar genius who is much more talented than hendrix or claptop, not saying hendrix is bad, jsut really overrated.)
3. David Gilmour ( pink floyd guitarist, but his solo stuff is great to)
I am not calling gusy like jimi hendrix, eric clapton or slash bad, but they are really not as great as these guys i think.
Yeah I suppose a lot of unheard of guitarists deserved to be in there. Also , is Buckethead in their list?tom morello is ok i guess, but the best guitarists ever are never mentioned here becasue people here dont know much about them.

I was surprized by that too. Kurt Cobain was a great guitarist, but he never did anything unbelievable with a guitar like Morello does. I personally think Eric Roche should be on that list. Of course all he did was cover songs, but he did the entire song by himself with a guitar. Just look him up and you'll see what I mean.Bulldog19892kurt colbain was great...

They were better ... but they were not as influential. So therefore Hendrix is remembered more. And inspiration creates more great guitarists.Hence for my first post:)
