I vote Coolio. Mostly because it's fun to say 'Coolio'. Also he got up to receive an award at some awards show, and he was drunk, so his acceptance speech was amusing.
Any schmuck can make a rap song. All you have to do is write down a bunch of obscenities, then put words in between to make it rhyme.
it's kinda hard to choose who's the greatest, but i like these rappers:
biggie smalls, wu-tang clan and affiliates, nas, eminem, bigL,slug, aesop rock, mobb deep, big pun, Immortal technique2pac, ice cube, and mos def
Wow. Could you imagine the hate someone would get if they went into a "who's the best metal band" thread and said "None, they all suck"? Seriously, you rap haters really should stay out of these threads. They're obviously not for you. Saying it takes no talent to be a good rapper is an idiotic thing to say. JML897What do you think of my picks? :P
It's hard to say who's the best, and I'm certainly no authority on the matter, but I'd say Guru, Mos Def, Erick Sermon, Jeremy Parish, Trugoy and Common are all right at the top.

 They're great.
I really should see their show sometime...I've seen a few clips of them on youtube (including the hiphopapotamus one) and liked what I saw.

Trugoy but not Pos? :(
Guru's probably in my top 10 too.
Pos is great. Trugoy just impresses me more often. What do you think of my picks? :P[QUOTE="Jazz_Fan"][QUOTE="JML897"]Wow. You should definitely check out that show. I have not heard much rap that I thought was good, people in my school who show me a song that they say is "deep" usually has very simple beats and jamming its message down me throat. What would you say is some good stuff to start with?Bret 'Rhymencerous' Mckenzie and Jamaine 'hiphopopotamus' ClementJazz_Fan
... when you rhyme like me you don't get paid, and when you rhyme like me you don't get laid. I love that episode!
Anyway... I like Notorious B.I.G. and MF Doom, but I don't listen to enough rap to have a definitive opinion.

Well it sounds like rap might just not be your thing, which is fine. :P I just get annoyed at people who come into every single rap thread to say "rap is crap".
Anyway:
Black Star - KOS (Determination)
MF DOOM - Deep Fried Frenz
A Tribe Called Quest - Award Tour
Raekwon - Heaven & Hell

I will listen to those, I personally try to give everything a chance before writing off my opinion for it, I am not a fan of Metal, but I have not heard what all the fans of it are going crazy over so I should listen to that as well. GAH so much music I need to hear.
