For many of you, you are still with your parents, so answer it in the current context.

My mom made only about 12k a year(yeah I was pretty poor).

So what about you?

I'm not sure about the actual wages divided between both my parents, but they make a rough total of $155,000 a year.

Each owned their own small businesses, so there wasn't a constant salary. I'd say $150,000 combined was the average figure, though. I would imagine that number could drop to $100,000 and easily swell to $300,000 considering my dad's business.

My parents last year made, in aggregate, about 190K, but that is not counting the large chunk of overhead involved in my mother's business (she's an independent geriatrician), which would probably bring the figure down to about 150K.

I wish my dad earned less, preferably $40,000-70,000. Thanks to all that money, I'm studying 50-60 hours a week. Go to a really uptight private school, haven't had a "day off" in about a month.

I don't see the connection. You don't have to work so hard just because someone else makes a lot of money. And why would him making less change that???

combined parents probably made ~ $80K / year.. and they worked their asses off to put myself and my 2 siblings through 15 years of private school. funny thing is growing up we never had a lot of name brand stuff like clothes and stuff.. and i remember thinking that when i'm older and make my own money i'll be able to buy all that stuff. now that i can afford it, i don't even want it. :)

Well, being in that bracket is not as great as you must think it is. Not really forced to study hard by the school, but its a really good incentive to try and make more and do better, cause things really suck right now.Plus, have to work harder at my job too to survive, plus, I have to get another one.

I haven't really had a day off since last summer before I took a summer college class...

I thought $70K was alot (My dad makes less then that, and my mom makes nothing, and no, she is not a stay at home mother), but compared to some of your guys' parents, its not much at all.

Less private classes, no private school, no more telling me that my hobby is wrong and that I should go down medicine or banking, no more forced religion classes.

"Money buys misery".

I could go on all day - but I'd rather not be the complaining type.

What I mean by no day off is I never had a weekend - or a whole day where I was free. I guess I feel different because I'm still in the Sixth Form, oh well.

Well my parents probably make around 150K combined in one year, but to tell you the truth, I wish they didn't. They both hate their jobs, and they come home stressed every night. We're not even really a close family, as we get alot of the stuff we want, and don't really need each other for anything. I'd much rather have less money and a family who actually likes and talks to one another like my friends, even if we had less money.

Both of my real parents have masters in chemical engineering so my dad makes about 120k a year. My mom used to work, but has become lazy and sits around and moans about life all day. Thank God I'm in college now so I don't have to live with that.

Not sure. I know my dad pays over 200k dollars in taxes but he never tells me how much he makes, because its a taboo subject to discuss your salary. I think he makes around 600-700k a year, im very grateful for him

Yeah, I had no idea my parents made as much as they did. They just don't bother with a lot of material goods. I'm surprised I came out of the family the way I did (quasi-spoiled brat).

Indeed. I was much the same way. One of the best things my parents did for me was teaching me a sense of frugality. It's much more difficult to go the other way - from living the 'good life' to living a frugal life.

my parents incomes wax and wane given that they have their own business. AFAIK it's somewhere between $200k-$1mil per year. Yeah it really fluctuates a lot.

A year, 7 mil a year. You probably think I'm joking. Admit it, you think I'm joking, so why don't you just burst out laughing, in your math class, in your english calss, in your science class, in your computer class, just burst out laughing for the teacher to go "What the hell is wrong wtih you?" and you can tell them, and you want to admit that you think I'm lying and they'll ask "Who the heck is MOCHIRON_MAN??" and you'll tell them, then you go home, and log on, and then you post saying you think I'm joking, so go on, Admit it. You think I'm joking. Don't you? Yes you do, I can see it in your digital representation of those buggy little eyes of yours. Your thinking "This guy is so joking. Clearly, he is pulling our leg."

Yes. I ramble. But that was intentional. You thought I was going to say Yes. I'm joking. But no. I'm not.

I need to cut back on the caffiene.

My dad makes most of the money in our family but the amount of money he makes depends on his sales. He sells fire alarm systems to places like local restraunts, school and hotels as well as a lot of other places. So depending on how many sales and the size of the sale will all vary his commission but he does get payed a salary also. He works for Carter Brothers if you must know, previously a branch of GE and before that it was owned by EST Service. My mom on the other hand works at a chocolate store called The Cape Cod Chocolatier and only works about 3 times a week and not in the summers so she might make like $200 a week max, that's just for groceries and stuff and so she can have something to do.

Untill I was about 8 years old my parents didn't make squat. My dad was in the Marines (they don't pay them anywhere near what they should) and my mom worked part-time at retail stores. Then my dad got a job with the government and he has increased his salary over the years to about 90K. I don't live with them anymore, though.

I'm not sure.. my dad's on around 10pounds an hour, he earns around 20k a year because he does alot of overtime. I am shocked at the amount of most of your parents earn, what do they do? A teacher in England get's around 50k a year I think.

Well my parents probably make around 150K combined in one year, but to tell you the truth, I wish they didn't. They both hate their jobs, and they come home stressed every night. We're not even really a close family, as we get alot of the stuff we want, and don't really need each other for anything. I'd much rather have less money and a family who actually likes and talks to one another like my friends, even if we had less money.LZ71
I live on a week to week basis, and my parents hate each other.
