GTA 4 Expansions

I have the Expansion packs to GTA4, my friend is going to buy GTA 4, I was wondering if I could play against him online even though I'll have the Expansions and he'll have vanilla GTA 4?

Each game (meaning the main game and the two expansions) have their own multiplayer. So you can play GTA4 against him if you have GTA4. You can play the Lost and Damned against him if you both have TLaD. If you both don't then you can't.
