Guns or no guns

So I was intense debate with my brother, i need moar input.

I said you should have a gun with you for personal defense, but he is like it won't help at all if you are being attacked. I said you have a gun, it'll help, and if you are pro at FPS like a true warrior like me, and have the stealth skills of a camper, you are bound to be more secure.

His defense is call 911, I said, they take atleast 5-15minutes to come and if a lunatic is after you for some reason because you pwned them in CSS, you will be able to fights, and he keeps thinking you'll be dead eitherway with a gun.

I think you will have a lot better chances with a gun, what say you OT'z?

I say let them have guns. The criminals will very likely have them and you cannot solely depend on the cops.

It's a good idea to have them. Banning them is ridiculous, seeing as the criminals will still find ways to get them.

I think you have a glorified vision of what a gun can and can't do for you in a realistic situation. If you're asleep and the "bad guy" is really concerned about his/her safety, you'd be dead before you had a chance to defend yourself. Paranoia doesn't work. Lock your doors and if you're really concerned about your neighborhood, get a security system installed.

Getting murdered in your sleep if it is within close range would depend on how much noise the intruder makes and whether or not you are a heavy sleeper, get a dog and problem is solved.

Where everyone's armed, I can see the logic in arming yourself for protection; over here, it would just create problems.jimmyjammer69

It's a great example of the prisoner's dillema. Everyone would be better off without any civilians walking around armed, but we (americans especially) don't trust others to do the same.

So to the question- yes you would be and no you wouldn't be.

Depends on the place. In America, I can understand the gun policy. I would support having guns as personal defence measure only if the holder is licensed.

For the community to own guns in each and ever house in a safe neighborhood is quite unnecessary, but in certain places it is necessary.

Guns are really needed in case of delicate situations but it tempts us to kill a person sometimes so no guns for me.tmaclabi

You should be allowed a gun at home, but nowhere else. So if you're attacked by a robber or something, you can scare them off. But if you take a gun out on the street you should be arrested.

Personally, I don't own a gun (yet). I live in a moderatly sized apartment in a so-so building in a pretty decent neighborhood, so I really don't think anyone would want to break in there. Plus, the dog's barking would likely deter anyone. So, for me "old blue" (my metal baseball bat) is all I rely on. However, when I finally have my nice big house, I'll reconsider purchasing a firearm.

Every responsible person should have a gun in my opinion. Your brother said that having a gun will not help you defend yourself which is complete bullcrap. Also, if civillians didn't have guns nothing would be there to ever stop the government from taking power and turning us into a communist nation.

If I lived in the U.S. I would consider getting a gun also. I prefer the gun laws in the UK however.

I don't think guns really make society safer, though the may for the individual. But it's an issue of personal freedom.

The whole mindset where I live is you should rely on 911 to protect you. It's evident by the anti-gun stance most people take in my state and the fact that you aren't allowed to carry any type of weapon to defend yourself.

I have to say I feel bad for any of you who are relying on the police to protect you. Most likely we're not going to get there in time to do anything, except maybe call you an ambulance and wonder why you didn't have anything to protect your hoime. It's sad, but true. Never rely on someone else to protect you.

So I've been playing SSF4 a lot lately and I've come to realize guns are cheating, it's not like you can block or jump over a bullet, it's not like a hadouken at all, I say melee weapons are more fair really.

BUT, in a world where nothing is fair and you never know what you will encounter, might as well have the advantage of ranged weapons, so I say go for it.

guns are fine, and the people that use them for harm acquire them illegally, so banning their legal sale is not going to do anything for our safety.
