Okay guys, my heart stopped pounding a few minutes ago, but I'd like to get this out of my system. So today, I was in the neighborhood park just talking to my friends and all of a sudden, I saw these several hoodlums riding their bikes towards our clean neighborhood. Judging by how they took one side of the street on their bikes really stirred up my stomach because people honked at em for doing that. They rode towards me and my friends saying "sup". I was calmed for a minute as they left... but the second time they came up to us, they were asking for my friend's bike. "Yo man... I like that shiny silver and blue bike. Give me the bike and we'll leave." One of my friend said "Don't steal his bike." and one of the hoodlums said "shut the f up." I panicked, stood up, and started to walk away because I'm just a kid and stuff. As I took a few steps the opposite direction, one of the other hoodlums said "get back here and sit down dawg" I could feel their eyes staring dead at me. I started pacing faster to the nearest person I could find. Luckily, I found this random guy and begged him to call the cops on the hoodlums trying to steal my friend's bike. The minute I pointed at the direction of the hoodlums... they left, riding their bikes and staring at me. This was the first time I ever encountered a hoodlum close enough to getting mugged, but i'm kind of paranoid about giong outside. Thanksto those who read and commented. Though I'm pretty sure I had it easy :?

edit: I live in Houston, TX. Which isn't the worst... but isn't the best cities to live in.

I dunno, unless they were gonna swing a bike at me. I'd pick a fight. I rather be beaten up, than some punk take my stuff by just asking.

I can understand the paranoia. Just have a couple people along when you go places for a little while if it haunts you this much. They just did it to feel superior in compensation for their insecurity. I doubt they would really do anything.

Hunt them down for target practice!

Wait whoa whoa since when have the Bronx, a borough, and Harlem, a neighborhood, become projects? :o

I lived right between Queensbridge and Ravenswood, and I would hear gunshots at night more often that I should have.

Now I live somewhere else in NYC, in a nice quiet place full of the most docile New Yorkers ever.

I never thought I'd hear "docile" and "New Yorkers" together in a single sentence.

I used the Bronx as a whole, cause basicly more than 80% of it isn't exactly what you'd call home sweet home. Especially during the 80's. And Harlem, always' been a bit laid-back. Wasn't Ravenswood where those somewhat bigger riots broke out during the '03 blackout?

Yeah.

I lived like 2 blocks away.

Thank god no one goes where I live.

Its just that one apartment building and a bunch of warehouses (the place I used to live in).

Don't be paranoid about going outside man, that way they have won & damaged you.

Smack the loudest one in the teeth as hard as you can in that sort of situation. It's horrible to feel intimidated...

I've had many many encounters with chavs (the UK's version of you hoodlum guys by the sounds of it). They are just scum, who won't get very far in life at all.

In 6th grade (I'm a junior in college now) I was walking to my friend's house from school with my friend. We walked passed these two grunge dressed high schoolers who began harassing us from afar. Next thing we knew they were following us and we were still about a 10 minute walk from his house. We decided to run (we were scared out of our minds) and ran by a person's house with a large boat in the front next to a large wall of bushes. We ducked between the boat and bushes and waited for the two to run by.

After about 2 minutes we popped out and hauled ass to his house and when we reached the end of his block we saw the two grungies about half a block to our right. Again we hauled to his house. Scared the crap out of us.

As for fights I have only ever been in two back in middle school. I guess I "won" both though once my little bro whacked the kid with a yard rake. I avoided a fight in high school from some kid who had just gotten out of juvie by acting high (swear I have never been high in my life!).

I tend not to watch people, however I pay attention, but I don't let it be obvious. I don't like to judge people or anything, but when someone comes up to me and pulls ****, I don't stand down. I don't care if they are packing, me being a small white guy, I don't look like I can do anything, and I'm not a fighter any more, but I am one dirty @$$ ****** ******.

Yeah, unfortunately I have....and got a bruised face and hand out of it.
Me and some friends were walking around late at night (we also had a couple of drinks), we were walking home to a friend's house to call it a night. We then meet up with someone we recognized, and we started to talk. Little did we know he was a part of a gang, but since he recognized us, he really didn't do anything.

It was then when his other gang members came by, and he changed...a lot. They started to get all mouthy, and they were walking away when my friend made the biggest mistake: calling them down. So they got angry, and came running back at us. I panicked then started to back off, they didn't recognize me at first, but when I saw them mess with one of my friends I stepped in, then they surrounded me and threatened to beat the crap out of me if I didn't give them my jacket (which was nothing but a cheap zip-up). But I stood my ground when someone took a swing at me and hit me hit in the cheek. I was down and got kicked in the face (which my hands were covering). All I remember is somene picking me up and telling me to run, so me and one of my friends ran and hid for a bit. It was quite scary because I lost the rest of my other friends and I had no idea what happened to them. But after awhile we found them, apparently someone stopped them and threatened with a bebe gun (lawl). But yeah....note to self: keep mouth shut when gang members are angry...

I got in a fight once at the mall cause some kid came up to me and was like hey you got change for a 20, he wanted two tens. So i didn't think much about it and gave it to him and he said thanks and started to walk away so at first i was just like hey you forgetting something trying to be nice, but i wasn't gonna just let this kid walk away with 20 bucks. And it ended up with him getting in my face and he took a swing at me (in the middle of the mall) so i ducked it and decked him and by that time the rent a cop came and i ended up getting my 20 bucks and the kid got taken to the mall jail or whatever you want to call it.
