What a solid attitude for a debateWhat else is there to say about cock rock that hasn't been already said the past 30 years

Nothing wrong with hair metal. Motley Crue toured with Ozzy in the 80's. Motley Crue was one of the best bands in the 80's. I don't see anyone ever bash Ozzy. Look up some of Ozzys pictures from Ultamate Sin and No Rest For The Wicked.
I wouldn't call these guys wussies

To be fair there isn't much to debate here other than mention how cheesy Joey Tempest of Europe looked..

Thats more like it ;) Actually Id consider Europe to be one of the most talented hair metal bands, the Final Countdown may be all they are known for but they wrote a lot of solid, decent, un-glam metal (Scream of Angers a damn good song, Arch Enemy did a particularly good cover)[QUOTE="Wolf-Man2006"][QUOTE="LeonardHatred"]What a solid attitude for a debateLeonardHatred

I've only heard Final Countdown (of course) and that awful ballad Carrie... I may have to check out the original Scream of Angers since I thought the Arch Enemy cover was amazing...

You just went up several notches sir ;) And yes Im acutely aware of just how little that means haha.Enjoy it though. I still prefer AE's effort but thats just cuz Ima whore for good-production, and Johans voice.so sad that disco died due to racism and homophobia in favour of ******* hair metalfreek666Im not naive, Im sure they were contributing factors in some small way, but disco was dead long before hair metal was popular. And it died because it was a fad, because it had no real staying power. It was stuck in a world of flares, sequins and afro's. Once all those elements were no longer in fashion, neither was disco, which speaks to its musical relevance. In fact Im fairly certain if you were to look back over the past 100 years of Western music and all the broader, more popular genres to emerge; disco would have by far the shortest life span.

Although it was essentially just funk with more hi-hats and less kick drum.
People focus so much on the hard-rock-influenced pop groups like Poison, Warrant and Motley Crue that they overlook some pretty good stuff.
Twisted Sister's Stay Hungry album was much more than "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock" (both of which the radio beat almost completely to death)... "Captain Howdy" and "Street Justice" kicked serious a**.
Extreme's first album had some amazing stuff on it. Check out "Play With Me".
Positively speaking, it opened the door for the popularity of metal in general. Bands that couldn't get airplay with the syrupy-saccharine pop that still dominates radio today were featured on Z-Rock.
It's a shame that it burned itself out before it matured. The image was just way too much to overcome (especially when you had some groups like Britney Fox wondering, "Are those chicks or are they really guys?").

The song 'two heads are better than one' by power tool, was better.Damnit, now I can't get Napoleon saying "Water slide" out of my head. :P
Extreme were certainly one of the best bands of the 80's and despite Teachers Pet and More Than Words, etc. I (and in fact, they) would consider it an insult to regard them as Hair/Glam Metal :P In fact they specifically dubbed themselves 'Funky Metal' and self-proclaimed magnum opus "III Sides to Every Story" contains very little of what you could label as such, most songs taking a heavier/proggier approach.Nuno Bettencourt is one of histories greatest guitarists though, anyone not indoctrinated must go and listen.People focus so much on the hard-rock-influenced pop groups like Poison, Warrant and Motley Crue that they overlook some pretty good stuff.

I totally agree that everything after the debut album moves as far from hair metal as possible. It's the best kind of evolution: from sort-of generic (with flashes of brilliance) to a nice unique sound. It's a shame that Waiting For The Punchline was so damned grim and depressing... in one album, they basically killed themselves.Extreme were certainly one of the best bands of the 80's and despite Teachers Pet and More Than Words, etc. I (and in fact, they) would consider it an insult to regard them as Hair/Glam Metal :P[QUOTE="LeonardHatred"][QUOTE="OrkHammer007"]

I still havent heard the new one, or purchased their first live DVD. Might have to treat myself this week. Can you believe Bettencourts supporting bloody Rihanna? She should be thanking him for even deigning to consider bringing such incandescent, genuine talent within 10 miles of one of her gigs.Gotta get up in a few hours... but one more post...

Bettencourt opening for... that's like Mozart opening for Cannibal Corpse. The two do not mesh. Who put that tour together, Spongebob Squarepants?!?

Yeah its nearly 8am here :\ though Ive been unwell and therefore sleeping through the days, Ive earned this haha. Yep, a new one. I reckon we both check it out and post our findings on here. May indeed have to get the live DVD too now Ive learned of its existence. Aaargh, the expense. I already need to buy a new laptop bag and a good KB&M for playing Old Republic :(I got a friend of mine to give me a listen to his copy of Saudades de Rock (Extreme's latest CD) and I wasn't really that impressed. It seemed to lack the passion of Pornografitti or III Sides To Every Story. I'd even go so far as to say ...Punchline was better.
That was just on a first listen, though, and I've been known to change my mind on an album after a few more tries.
In that vein... I was going through some old cassettes to see if I had the corresponding CDs, and found another hair-metal band (Savatage) that was progressing to better things. Check out "24 Hours Ago" from Hall of the Mountain King, and how much of a step up that was from the sheer cheese of "Fight For The Rock."
Hell, they've endured so well, they're (sort of) stealingfromthemselvesfrequently (I can think of more examples than those 4, if you need them).
