For the past couple of years I've realize that If I try to sleep on my back, at about 1-2 Am, I will start to hallucinate. I begin to see things in my room, figures moving about, and then I hear noises come from the other rooms, sounds like glass breaking and footsteps and scratching. My body seizes up, and there is nothing I can do once they start, except merely watch and listen. I'll even get up, or spin around and look at my shelves, which began to sag and flex and sometimes things appear to fly off like they were trying to hit me.

I have had some truly horrific episodes, and I'm not sure what is causing them. It doesn't happen in any other place except my house.

If you could see what I saw, you would probably never sleep again. Last night, I heard the front door open, and I saw a figure glide into my room, behind the shelves, and then come right up to my bedside. It didn't walk, it didn't make any sounds, it moved about without moving its feet.

Another time I began to see many paintings on the wall, each one of a face of people I couldn't identify. The paintings began to stretch until the faces began screaming and I slid off my bed and onto the floor. I could feel something slithering around from behind me then, and as I tried to get back up, my body siezed up and I was nailed there for what seemed like 5 minutes. All the while I felt a snake-like creature watching me, from a position nearby.

The terrors leave me in a jumbled state and I'm scared to walk around in my own house afterwards.

Does anyone else have any info for me, or have had similar experiences? I cant be alone in this.... I'm not crazy!!!

Well there are a few possibilities.

1. You're mentally ill.

2. You're using drugs.

3. You' have the ability to see spirits and such.

I have schizophrenia and this don't sound like any typical hallucinations associated with the illness. If your telling the truth I sugest you see a doctor.

Hallucinations are usualy caused by schizophrenia, brain tumors, epilepsy or drugs.

Although after rereading the post I think either 1 he's full of BS or 2 if he's telling the truth it might be some kind of sleep disorder.

Hallucinations associtated with the illnesses I mentioned don't occur only at night. There would be other symtoms pressent at all times.

I dont BS. Why would I lie about something like this? There are better ways for me to get attention.:?

As for this being a sleep disorder, that was my first guess. But which one? I thought maybe it has something to do with blood flow, maybe sleeping on my back does something, I'm not sure I've never been medically inclined...

When I lay down they are closed, but they open on their own, at least that's how it feels.

Now thats a good reason to be scared. Are you sure your awake? Try thinking about something, just focus on it and see what happens around you. If the environment starts to change to your thoughts then awake or asleep you know your in control.

Thier are conditions where people are half awake and half asleep and it's possible to still be in a dreaming even after your eyes are open. Look up night terrors on the internet see if that has anything to do with it.

Do you hallucinate durring the day?

Ever seen in pictures how eyes can be red from the exposure. Thats the light reflecting in the back of your eye. If you have a digital camera take a pic and get the red eye effect to show up. Usual if someone has a brain tumor only one eye will turn up red.

I have had somewhat similar experiences - I would be asleep but think I am awake where I am sleeping and see figures in the doorway or room - I would jolt up into another false reality - one I had was a hooded figure (a woman I think) sitting directly in front of me, I would wake up and shake for a few moments and then not be able to fall asleep again

I want to see. :P Seriously, if I had a recurring thing that was set by a certain time? I'd get a video camera and see what it looked like during the daytime.

It usually has an onset in late teen to early 20s for males. Once you're past your early 20s, it's pretty unlikely to start showing the signs of schizophrenia.

Well if like me things have actually started moving, then you are not hallucinating. One night i was in bed, my game console was in its box on top of my wardrobe, the box moved straight of my wardrobe, then back on about 5 times, with the box floating in the air. You would probabaly never have seen anyone get out of bed as fast as i did.

Try setting up a video recorder, like some other guy said, to see what it looks like in the morning.

To be honest, i would see a doctor just incase its the start of more serious problems....

You're not alone, I had one of those the other night. I either dreamed or hallucinated that people(who I assumed where ghosts at the time) were laughing and trying to wake me up, First there was a little girl, probably around ten who keep hitting my back and telling me to wake up and giggling. Then someone else came in and did the same thing, I was in a state of shock and couldn't move. I think my "episode" was caused by too much ambien and xanax.

Its probably sleep paralysis, which does feel like your hallucinating,

I get it as well from sleeping on my back(i only sleep on my sides due to this)

Mkavanaugh77

After reading your post, I looked this up. It is exactly what I think happens to me! Thank you! :D

Quote froma article:

This leaves the person fully conscious, but unable to move. In addition, the state may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger [3]. Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual due to the vividness of such hallucinations[4]. The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful, or dream-like, objects may appear in the room alongside one's normal vision. Some scientists have proposed this condition as a theory for alien abductions and ghostly encounters.[5]

The paralysis can last from several seconds to several minutes "after which the individual may experience panic symptoms and the realization that the distorted perceptions were false" [6]. When there is an absence of narcolepsy, sleep paralysis is referred to as isolated sleep paralysis.

This is it!

yes it definetly sounds like sleep paralysis, people shouldn't joke so much in topics like this, I don't believe it's dangerous, but it no doubt is freaky as hell, and you'll be having trouble getting any sleep. See a doctor asap.
