I just came back from one of the most crowded midnight premieres I have ever witnessed. I thought it was pretty good. Though I felt as if it was missing something and felt too short. I was expecting more from the Harry vs. Voldemort fight. At the end of the movie I was kind of like "that's it?" "that's it from the finale?".

Maybe it was just me but I was kind of expecting more. That aside, I thought everything else was pretty good. It's sad to see the franchise close though. Glad it closed on a high note. The 19 years later part was really funny seeing them older.

What did you think?

It was packed here too. I liked the movie but there are parts I started to fall asleep on but that might have been because I was tired. The ownage scenes with the cast is just awesome. It was great, but not the best of them all. In the top of the list I must say. I totally forgot how it ended... and when I seen it I was like :|.

Yeah, some people probably aren't book readers so they didn't read the book but want to see the movie.

I just got back from the midnight showing, and man was it epic. The rest of of this post contains SPOILERS about the movie. As a whole all the films to justice to the books which is an achievement. HP7 part 2 also creates a true epic, emotional and powerful, an achievement that is incredibly rare outside of Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Really, it was awesome. However, that doesn't mean I don't have a few knits to pick. First off, the movie was short, just less than 2 hours. There was not to much source material after where HP7 part 1 left off (Gringots heist and then the Battle of Hogwarts), and so the directors had plenty of time to delve into Dumbledor's past and tear down our impressions of him as a perfectly good sage. That tearing down of our ideas about good and bad characters was to me one of the best things about the book. The movie only really hints at Dumbledor's past, even though there would have been ample time for flashbacks and discussions. Actually that's my only real criticism of the movie. Other that that it was pretty amazing.

Yeah, my midnight showing was packed as well.

I thought the film would've been a little better if it replaced some of the cheesy fan service in the beginning with some character moments between the three leads or perhaps Voldemort, but otherwise I thought it was about the best ending that the series could really hope for. And for all of the *****ing about the epilogue, I thought it was perfect in execution and it was exactly the right way to leave the series.

I am in tears. It over! Oh man what a wonderful end to the movies. I wish they had went a little deeper with Dumbledore's past and Ginny x Harry's relationship through but otherwise I love it, probably my favorite HP movie.

Also for my first experience at a midnight opening it wasn't too bad but not surprising it was pretty crowded.:P

Me and some other guy in the theatre laughed our asses off when it said 19 years later and they all looked the same. Other than that, I'm pretty impressed, other than the fact that they left out Dumbledore's backstory, and I think the battle of Hogwarts could have been a bit longer.

i watched it wednesday night , it's an amazing movie , the second act is the best , for those saying that the final showdown could have been better , but you know how was the fight in the book , so they had to build on it and make it more action packed , also Harry is a 17-year old wizard , he can't make those huge and amazing spells , that dumbeldore made in Order of the phoenix , he barely knows spells that can come handy to him in fights.

I ADORED it! I thought it had just the right amount of talking / fighting etc. It was humorous and the cinema had a great atmosphere! Everyone laughed when they saw them 19 years later but I thought it was really clever how they'd done it - I assumed they'd use different actors. Very impressed with the film and will definitely be off to see it again!

Not perfect but the best movie out of the series. I wouldn't have ended it any other way really. I'm so sad that Nymphadora and Remus died; their deaths hit me as hard in the movie as it did in the books. They really pulled off how Snape was involved in everything well. You really got the feeling that he loved Potter's mother. Goodbye childhood. You were great while it lasted.

Hah I'm going to see it a little later this morning. Funny to hear people laughing about the final scene when they're older. I was thinking that might happen.

I wish they put the actual epilogue ending where everyone stares at Harry and Ron says that he's kinda famous lol

not reading any of your comments because im going too see it at 4PM today. :D i'll post my thoughts later.

looking forward to it though, the reviews seem to suggest it is the best in the series.

i liked almost all of them except the last two, i thought they were a bit boring.

very good! definetely the best Harry Potter film.

the fight scenes were awesome.

the only part that annoys me is that the kids still aren't acted anywhere near aswell as the grownups, that counts in all the movies. i just can't take the serious scenes with harry & co that seriously.

especially when these two are on screen, it shows.

the scenes with voldemort talking in front of his followers, i could watch for hours.

I know right. At the end of the movie, as I watched old Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione escort their kids to the Hogwarts express, I realized that this was the end of an era. Harry Potter will never be as important to me as it is now until I am the proverbial parent on Platform 9 3/4s showing Harry Potter to my kids for the first time. Until then, this is the final ending for an epic that has had so much influence on me as I grew up.

yeah there was not a single empty seat in the theatre I went to, and they showed it on five screens too!

anyway, I loved it. The pacing was a lot better than part 1, and the whole movie was just great. Hands down, Harry Potter is the best book-to-film adaptation I have ever seen.

Oh, and I am soooooooooooo happy they went with the book ending. Such a sweet, happy ending

I always feel the Harry Potter movies are too short and missing things from the books. Literally every movie.

As far as the Harry Voldemort battle goes I would argue the movie did it better than the book. If you remember the book gave the fight all of one paragraph before it was over. Rowling herself admits that she isn't all that great at writing battle scenes, and this was the book where most editors didn't get to touch her work to make it shine. Shouldn't be any surprise then that the final fight wasn't all that great nor did the book really live up to the other 6.

That being said it's still better than 90% of other stuff out there, but we need to compare it to the rest of the series.

I thought Bellatrix's and Voldemort's deaths were kind of underwhelming, but Im glad Mrs. Weasly still used my favorite line :)

It was great all around though, and I'm depressed to see the series has finally ended. Thanks Rowling for a great childhood!

The action was awesome, it was very well shot, directed and acted... But my problem is the story was just flat out underwhelming...

Ok my first problem, this was the climax of eight movies, 7 books.. and I felt like Harry did .. nothing. lol I mean what did he learn? What did he do that helped him kill Voldemort?.. I mean he killed the Horcruxes or w/e .. which is something anyone else could have pretty much done.. and then Voldemort just kind of .. died.. and that was it.. Like really? I mean eight movies and we couldn't get a better pay off than that?

And Dumbledors plan to defeat Voldemort made NO SENSE.. I mean he had like what 20 years to plan this out?.. and his plan is that Snape needs to kill him.. so that when Voldemort tries to use his wand, he won't be able to because it will belong to snape and when he tries to kill harry he will kill himself... Like are you kidding me that is his plan?.. First off.. If he has the elder wand THEN WHY DOES HE NEED TO DIE?.. If he has the most powerful wand in the world then why doesn't he use it against voldemort?.. Because if it is not powerful enough to kill voldemort THEN WHY DOES VOLDEMORT WANT IT IN THE FIRST PLACE?.. Wasn't his wand strong enough already? he could have used it to kill Harry and everyone else!... He DIDN'T NEED IT because no one else was stronger than him either way.. Especially if there was any risk that it would somehow backfire on him why in gods name is it that important.. it isn't..

Also if Dumbledore was aware of all the horcruxes that he needed to destroy, THEN WHY DIDN'T HE DESTROY THEM ALREADY?.. You would think that if he had planned to sacrifice himself he would have made sure all the Horcruxes other than harry had been destroyed already, especially because HALF of them were INSIDE OF HOGWARTS.. RIGHT THERE.. infront of his face.. and he just says MEH Somebody will probably figure it out and take care of them eventually...WHAT?..

Oh.. And Ron knows Parcel tongue.. HOW.. That isn't something you can just imitate.. He learned it from Harry? not possibile.. The whole point of that was that like you have to be able to do it you can't just imitate it.. And it JUST so happens the little bit of parcel tongue he knows just so happens to be the password to the Chamber of Secrets... Jesus.. and also why did Ron and Hermione need to go there to kill the Horcrux anyhow?.. There was no reason to other than to grab a tooth to kill it with.. There weren't any sharp or heavy objects anywhere else?

Also, it felt like nobody cared about anything that was happening.. I mean how many people has Voldemort killed? Hes killed Harry's parents, his friends destroyed the school ruined his life and yet Harry doesn't have ANYTHING to say to him.. like no words to Voldemort about how hes wrong or how he'll make him pay or whatever.. NOTHING... Even Ron, he kills his brother and its like he doesn't even care.. He cries off screen for like what.. 10 seconds? and then after that its like nothing even happened.. 10 minutes later he is like LOL Harry if we use that wand we will be unstoppable am I right Hermione? *nudge nudge*... I mean so many people, main characters DIE in this movie and we feel nothing because

1) We don't see it happen

2) Nobody seems to really care enough to have any sort of emotion about it, i mean we don't get so much as a funeral, or anything that shows how much all these lost lives even mean.

And remember when Voldemort said HARRY IS DEAAD!!.. Ron and Hermione just kind of stand there like.. Oh well thats a shame then lol COME ON!! Jinny I guess kind of broke out a little but thats the most the supposed death of the Hero of the series can muster?.. My god.

Well thats my little rant I guess, idk maybe I'm wrong people seemed to like it but I just felt that for a series that spanned 7 books and eight movies I felt there should have been more gravity in the way it ended.. I mean Toy Story 3, which is only like 3 hour and a half movies had a WAAAAY bigger more impactive ending and that is a movie about TOYS for gods sakes, I mean when you are getting out done in your endings by movies about Toys I think you could have done a bit better...

I already know I'm going to buy it on Blu-Ray, so I'm just going to wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray and save myself the ridiculous ticket prices, overpriced concessions and burned fuel on the way to the theatre. Plus, I can avoid the crowds and noises and unruly children, and the silly cos-playing Harry Potter nerds.

VendettaRed07
I will try to answer a couple of these questions , Voldemort dies after all the horcruxes are destroyed , he can't kill harry all the time because the wand is not letting him , after the horcruxes are destroyed , he dies because harry's Spell kills him . Also the Elder wand can't kill Voldemort , because himself he can't die with the Horcruxes . About Ron , that language is used in Chambers of secrets , the second part , harry speaks while he sleeps , and in Deathly Hallows part 1 when he says to the locket to open , so he might have learned the language . Now about Ron's brother dying , from the point where Fred dies to the Point where the final showdown begins , there is a big time Interval , so they did their Crying (Hermione and Ron) and Burying . Also the book is like this , so you can't also blame the film , they could have made it longer imo . But it was an amazing movie and a great way to end the series.

Awesome movie. Just got back from seeing it. I laughed, I cried, I cheered. Such an epic movie and a great way to wrap up the movie series.

I guess maybe the ending was a bit over dramatic, but I understand they need to make it theatrical.

Wow. I had tons of gripes with with Part I, but Part II was a truly excellent Harry Potter movie, easily the best. It really left the other ones completely in the dust. Unlike the other movies, this one constantly had momentum, it was constantly exciting, constantly eventful, and there actually was a sense of danger. Danielle Radcliffe actually turned in a pretty powerful performance in this one and that's impressive since the movie rested on his shoulders IMO.

There was still a bit of awkward editing, but this movie was entertaining in a way that the other Potter films weren't. They were entertaining in their own way, but had tons of moments that drag. This movie is entertaining on another level in that it was entertaining from start to finish and had more emotional gravity than the others. I actually think this last Potter film was pretty much on the level of The Dark Knight as far as hero movies are concerned.

That being said, The Dark Knight Rises trailer was unbelievably lackluster. If people actually paid the price of a ticket to see that, then they have to be pretty damn dissapointed.

spoilers: it was hilarious seeing malphoy in the 19 years later when he had that beard . and i noticed baby harry potter had unattached ear lobes, mean while regular harry potter has attached, and you could argue his ears changed as he grew, however that seems pretty unlikely to me

First of all, Voldemort is too ignorant as to the nuances of the Elder Wand to understand that it wouldn't automatically make him as powerful as he thinks. Voldemort thinks that if someone as powerful as him procures the wand, he will be unstoppable. That's as far as his thinking on that subject goes.

Dumbledore had to die because he was all ready dying. When he destroyed one of the Horcruxes, he was fatally cursed and only had a year to live anyway.

RIGHT THERE.. infront of his face.. and he just says MEH Somebody will probably figure it out and take care of them eventually...WHAT?..VendettaRed07

Dumbledore was all ready in the process of destroying them. He destroyed one of them himself. The ring.

I thought the Parsletongue thing was kind of silly and dues ex machinaish, but the tooth doesn't kill the Horcrux because it's sharp and heavy. It kills it because basilisk venom is one of the only things that is strong enough to destroy a Horcrux. A sharp and heavy object is not going to be enough. You need something with powerful magic properties, like basilisk venom, which is contained in one of its teeth.

130 mins is not a short movie. It's just short for a Potter movie. I actually thought this Potter movie had the best length. Some of the others were way too long.

I liked the final movie alot, although I wish it had stayed more faithful to the book in the final battle.

It was a damn good movie, but far from perfect, the movie has several problems:

  • Some parts feels slow.
  • Some parts feels rushed.
  • The Final battle was kind of a letdown (again rushed).
  • Some parts were too cheese.

Still it was a very enjoyable movie with very memorable moments and i have to say i liked the epilogue, i thought it was going to be very cheese, but it wasn't, it was good, however, once again, i was a little bit rushed, i think they should have made the movie a little bit longer, 2:30 would have been great to give more details on some events (Some of the deaths and some of the battles), a solid 8.5 IMHO.

did anyone else love Mcgonagall in this film? Personally I thought she nailed it in every scene she was in. Or am I just blinded by my love of Maggie Smith's acting?

McGonagall was beyond awesome. I never thought I'd find an old woman to be so cool and badass, but in this moive, she definitely was.

I just wish the final battle had included their final talk, that's really what brought it all together and made it feel as though it came to a close. Them chasing each other around pulled away from it.

Although they decided to leave out/alter many important events from the book, it was still a pretty good movie. It was sad seeing it end too..The same feeling I had when I finished the last book a few years ago.

I did prefer the final talk over the chase/battle (as it made more sense story-wise), but if one judges the movie as its own entity (which is how I tend to evaluate these movies), Ithought the battle/chase worked very well cinematically.
