Has anyone else here ever had a run in with the authorities in college?

To start it off, I am from Georgia since I think state laws matter in this situation. so i dont really want to go into detail here, but while walking back to my place of residence some circumstances came up and I was arrested for MIP, Fake ID, and obstruction of justice(misdemeanor kind, I ran). I was wondering if anyone here has been in a similar situation, and what the outcome in court usually is?

I am well prepared for a few joke posts about how my life is over and such, but a few serious responses would be nice from anyone who knows about these types of situations. If anything, I am just looking for a little certainty and peace of mind. Also, if anyone else has had any other kind of incidence thats relatable in any way, feel free to help a brother out. Thanks in advance guys

No, the worst that happened to me was I forgot to cite something in my essay and I was just told not to do that again and I had to pick a new topic for my essay.

Well running from the police never helps. Never >.> If it's your first run in with the law, I suspect community service.

yep, it was my first run in with the law. Also, I have always heard not to run I guess I just panicked, I wasnt really thinking I was just too afraid of getting arrested. turns out I only made it worse, but oh well, I cant do much about that now

Based on your poor syntax and the injudiciousness suggested by your actions, I take it you attend a community college?

I've had two, although they were both by proxy.

For the first, one of my buddies got a ticket for imbibing under the age ($251), but the officer told him he could get a lower amount if he went to court for it and pleaded guilty. So he went to court for it, they brought his case up with about 2 dozen other people of similar charges, and got an amount of $100. He was thrilled as the entire proceeding lasted all of 5 minutes and saved him $151. But then he got the bill for the court fees which were $151 :P

The other one occured when I was walking a drunken friend home. He decided to shout at the 7th floor dorm of a girl he wanted to date, and then rolled around on the ground cackling. A police officer strolled up and said, "Son, why are you on the ground?" His reply as he looked up at her from the pavement was, "Oh my God, I don't remember being on the ground." I told her that our apartment was right around the corner and she let us finish walking home.

Oh yeah, I went to school in IL.

Edit: I guess there were a few more times, also by proxy, but they were either boring or... just pathetic. No real need to reiterate them here.

I go to uga, what about you? and as for the other poster supmt, your snide comments are not necessary here as they do not contribute to the thread at all and also insult anyone who reads these forums who actually go to community college, which is respectable in its own right. I honestly did not feel syntax was very crucial to my post, but of course there will always be people like you looking to derail conversations based on trivial items. Anyways, I believe I will be on probation and community service but does anyone know if I can get these charges taken off my record eventually, and if i cannot, how much will it affect companies hiring me in the future when I apply for jobs in the real world?

Not really. The only thing that happened recently was last semester. My brother and I both go to a university, and he is a freshman pitcher on the baseball team. Anyway, he was driving, and me and some of our friends were in the car and he was going like 65 or so in a 40. We got pulled over and the cop asks for license and registration and all of that. Then he's like oh you're on the baseball team, huh? And he's like yeah. Then the cop goes you pitched a hell of a game last night. Slow down and drive safely. Have a good night. And he just let us on our way.

Yeahhh Only once. Had a birthday party with people from work. The cop knocked on the door because of a noise complaint, saw it was a "pretty in pink" party (girl's birthday..), saw most of us were underaged with alcohol lying around and a beer pong table set up, then told us if he had to come back he'd actually do something. Concluded by telling us to have a good time, turned around, and walked away. :P

My wife set me up on a false DV charge at college. I really can't think of anything worse, considering such a pro-feminist crowd like at most major universities would like to hang anyone (male) over such an accusation. Yeah, it was pretty terrible--even more so, considering she gave four different versions of what happened (and no one cared about anything I had to say, even though my story actually made sense). Other fun facts? She made sure a handgun was in our on-campus apartment, got my youth pastor I knew my whole life to lie to support her case, and she would always try to start arguments around her family (like an idiot, I just didn't understand why at the time) to set me up with a "history." There are many other cogs in the machine that were all put into place, but those are the main points. All in all, it has me thinking that I don't want anything to do with any American female ever again, and certainly not any kind of feminist. Gentlemen, a similar situation you cannot risk, and no, there's nothing you can do about it if she decides to get rid of you. You will be trying to figure out why you're in a jail cell and get the "Protective Order" that protects her from accountability and gives her time to finish lying to her family--that nut even tried to enlist my own family against me! And the worst part is that society will still bend over backwards to accommodate her after seeing evidence. It is a maddening sort of situation which I understand is inflicted with impunity by the most savage of human beings. Alright, that's enough for one post...

Just figured that running from the police when it's pretty certain they have something on you is incredibly stupid, and from my experience, college people that manage to succumb to stupid behavior like this tend to attend community college. Not that UGA isn't more or less equivalent to one. :P Just messing with you. Take a chill pill, it will most likely be a case of probation especially if it's a first time offense.

As for whether it will affect your job prospects - I wouldn't worry about it. My dad got caught for something similar in college (I doubt he tried to outrun the police though) and now makes upwards of $600,000 a year as a corporate lawyer.

most states have first offender laws, where they give you some conditions and if you complete them... you record is essentially clean.

The main question, is why the encounter happened in the first place. Why are these police searching you for posession and fake IDs and such? what led up to this?

If they didnt have reasonable cause to search you, you can probably get the whole thing thrown out. We need more details.

I was arrested in college for disorderly conduct, and never found out why... i just went with the system and my record is clean as a result, but i lost my first offender status... when i did nothing wrong (well the arresting officer said it was because i was yelling... but thats not illegal.. disorderly conduct is kinda the things cops arrest you for when they have no reason to arrest you.)

ultimately i figured i didnt actually do anything illegal, so the system would take care of me... turns out they try to **** you no matter what you did.

seems the worst they do is make you take a class and issue small fines. Dont worry, just be honest and get through it, even if you have to hire a lawyer... because its all about not having a conviction on your record (when filling out any form of application)
