I'm making this poll based on the number of people I've seen in other religious thread come in and say something like, "It's no point in arguing, you're not going to change 'so and so's' name no matter how much evidence you present." So I'm wonder if anyone here has ever changed their religious beliefs because they were overwhelmingly convinced that their religious beliefs or non beliefs were wrong and theirs was right.

*note* It does not count if you were convince outside of Gamespot forums.

This is an awesome idea for a thread/poll, dude. Wish more people would reply...

But yes, people on OT helpedmy fall in religion from being a highly religious Catholic, seriously considering becoming a Jesuit... all the way to becoming a full-on Atheist.

Yeah.

Now, OT wasn't the REASON I converted, but people's points on several threads led me to thinking, but mainly it was one of my friends who had recently turned Atheist, and I talked to him about it...

But you can say people here convinced me to change my beliefs.

Thanks, it's probably not the best time to post this thread if I want to get a better response. I may bump this later in the day.

Of course I've changed my beliefs, numerous times. It depends who posts in what thread. Now that Dracargen is gone, I have again reverted to atheism, but that will change soon I think.

This was sarcasm, btw.

No, although I am open to any evidence or reasoning to change my beliefs. Even though there is absolutely no evidence or reasoning that is strong enough to make me want to do so.

No and I probably never will (I'm pretty set on what I believe in, as a Christian), but I am open to evidence and such contrary to my belief. If its hard fact I'll try not to argue.

I hope no one is that ignorant that nothing would change their beliefs. I myself am an atheist but since there's no proof of anything else I don't believe in anything else.

To a degree yes, such as creationism, now my faith feels stronger. But I don't beleive in Evolution either. But as a whole, no, I'm still Christian. But I do question alot of things more.

The only thing Gamespot OT has taught me about religion is that there are a whole lot of zealots out there....

like seriously if we were to turn some of the stuff I read in those threads we could give Jesus Camp a run for it's money.

You see that everybody? And you thought it wasn't possible...

I've helped 3 people out of the depths of religious oppression myself, and they've all been grateful for it.

It just takes a humble soul willing to look at different possibilities, as well as courage to face any changes that might occur. Sadly, many people don't have these qualitites, and THAT'S why "de-conversions" don't happen very often - not because religions are true.

Yes... the evidence is all there, but people are so closed-minded that they don't see it.

So, you voted that you could never be convinced?

Notice, if you will, how 'christian and proud of it' is mutually incompatible with open-mindedness.

Precisely. And that's proof as defined by the dictionary and science, not by the clergy.

I'm not a bible-thumping religious person and fairly open minded, but that hasnt resulted in loss of my Religion. Though i dont really adhere to any specific denomination of Christianity, i believe in God and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Simultaneously, i believe in evolution, the Big Bang, and the Earth being 4.5 Billion years old. I have experienced no conflict between my religious and my science studies. They complement eachother, if anything. I have a blog on the matter, as a matter of fact.

I'm surprised that currently 29% of people are so devout they won't even consider the possibility their beliefs are wrong no matter how much counter evidence is presented to them.

I don't believe in any mainstream religion, although I accept the possibility that there may be a God/Gods or some"all-powerful Being" that created the universe (or the singularity prior to the Big Bang). Is this what you call agnostic? If not, then what is it?

If there's ever any convincing evidence provided to me for the existence of a deity I'll gladly repent.
