It was a tradition in Texas up until the 1970s, and they only stopped cuz the supreme court got all butt hurt.

It is kind of morbid.
Then again, I think a game of Lethal Injection or Electric Chair would probably be looked at even worse.
I actually remember an activity we had at church where we planned a bunch of games and activities for the youngsters who attended. They banned the "hangman" game because some of the kids were actually thinking about/had attempted suicide so we didn't want to give them any ideas.
I play it differently with my students. The man slowly descends into a tank of sharks instead. Much more vivid.
