St. Louis, Missouri
1. Numerous times for flooding
2. A shooting in one of the suburbs
3. Sports teams wining titles
4. Being the meth capital of the country
5. Being the STD capital of the country
6. Being #2 in crime.
7. Recently one of the local high schools got on CNN for having a hell themed prom.
we were on the front page of cnn.com a few months back (pocono's in PA) a smallish area. Some guy cut up some lady and and put here in 5 different trash bags and dumped them willy nilly on the highway. Sick digusting freak... They should do the same thing to him.

in the UK, there was a fiasco in 2002 regarding A Level results being suspiciously low for number of subjects, and it was widely speculated the government fixed the results to fight accusations that A Levels were becoming too easy...
anyway, my old school was the first one to report it. it was the first one that started it all off... so there were BBC News cameras all over the place for months. if you saw a BBC News report around that time, chances were it was recorded at my old school.
that's probably as famous as my little nowhere town has ever been.
Super Bowl XXXIX took place in Jacksonville, FL a few years back. Man the city streets were crazy that week. And every year the Florida/Georgia game and the Gator Bowl are held here.
My city has not only gotten National attention it has gotten International attention. Being the capital in the North of Ireland, during the troubles alot happened.
Sydney, Australia? Hmm... I can't se why we'd get any attention...
But if you don't mean the general metropolitan area, and more specifically the smaller "cities" within capital cities... then no, not really. We have the largest shopping mall in the southern hemisphere, and it was also where the Government of Australia was during colonisation... but nothing international that I know of.
Edit: National? Oh, well, yeah. Since it's the largest CBD (central business district--think downtown) aside from Sydney's CBD... yeah, we make news.
Well I live in Los Angeles so...yep, quite often I suppose although not always for positive reasons.
My city is the home of "The greatest outdoor show on Earth", and hosted the winter olympics one year. harashawnAlberta :o
Yes. Even though Fargo, North Dakota is boring and relatively unimportant, it has gained national attention a few times, including when the movie Fargo was made, the flood of 1997, and the flood of 2009.t3hrubikscubeYou survived a flood??? (Sorry, I don't read too much news.)
You survived a flood??? (Sorry, I don't read too much news.)thequietguyYeah, the river here floods every spring, but it was especially bad in 1997 and now it's even worse this year... It just started to go down earlier this week, but it's going to go up again pretty soon...
