So I'm contemplating heavily on deleting my Facebook account I've had for over 5 years.

I've unfortunately wasted so much time on it. Plus, it's changed drastically in so many ways over the years. It's the stem of most of my issues these days.

It just feels like one big "life comparison" that I don't want to be a part of.

So, with that being said, the title states all...:)

I know several "friends" (as in people I am connected to on Facebook) that deleted their pages and later came back. I have yet to see someone actually leaving the page forever.

As for me, I do have an account, but I check my feed only like 2-3 times a month and when I do, I usually just jump through the people actually close to me and ignore the rest. I do share a video or something I find enjoying on it from time to time, but I don't care if anyone reacts. It just goes into the void.

I still have mine, but it's strictly for keeping in contact with a SELECT few family & friends and too promote my small business! FB can be a useful tool, but that all depends on the intentions of the user.

You know you don't have to go there if you don't want to right?

I got rid of mine after not using it for 5 years. I stopped checking it initially because it felt weird learning things about people I hadn't talked to in many years.

All my close friends who I keep up with I just chat with by phone or via discord.

Facebook is a waste of time IMO. Not to mention the whole fact that they collect a scary amount of data for a private company.

Done it several times only to regret it. Now it's somewhat boring so I'm not addicted like before. It's nice keeping up with friends from other states though, like pregnancy or engagements. I've had to block a lot of people's posts though, which has been awesome. Especially all the pyramid schemes they try to throw out there to see who'll bite. Mostly use Instagram now. Way less drama and clutter.

i deleted mine several years ago.

i haven't missed it, if anything it felt like it was a weight lifted. back then i often found myself subconsciously opening up the app for no particular reason, scrolling down my feed mindlessly, sometimes even in mid conversation with someone. zombie-like behaviour. for a social network it didn't half encourage antisocial behaviour.

i'm quite a sociable person so see all my mates frequently anyway. it was quite fun in the early years but from what friends who are still on there say it's a very different place these days. glad i got out when i did

@Macutchi: Yeah it really is a different place compared to when I first joined. I went ahead and deleted my profile last night. Apparently it can take up to 90 days for everything to be completely erased.

I wanted to go ahead and get rid of it before I couldn't if you know what I mean. A lot of websites now don't offer deletion only deactivation, so I'm glad I did.

As you said I think we can both agree that yes indeed it lifts a weight off your shoulder. :)

I used it last year from like March to November or December. Stopped and was off of it for about 2 or 3 months. Fired it back up in February. By the end of the month I'd shut it down again.

I guess the main problem is that even though you can contact just about anyone, it's really easy for them to ignore or block you.

And even if you've added someone, it doesn't really mean you'll stay in touch all that well.

It's really just a waste of time.

I deleted my facebook account about 3 years ago, and I don't miss it at all. It was sort of fun during my highchool years (2008-2012), but once most of my "friends" hit adulthood my facebook feed turned into an endless bitch fest about everything, and reading their fucking bullshit always left me feeling annoyed and depressed. To permanently remove the temptation to keep logging into that site, I deleted my facebook account and cut most of those people out of my life forever. I've regretted nothing about that decision ever since.

Facebook seems to be dying out anyways, so if you want to delete your account now, you won't be missing out on much.
