So I bought a brand new tube of Crest the other day and the cap fell on the floor. Despite washing the cap really well with a combination of 409, Clorox, Softsoap, Comet and Pine Sol, as well as scrubbing it with alcohol before putting it back on the tube, I had this nagging feeling that it might not have been enough. So I toss the brand new tube and run out to buy a new tube. I just didn't want some weird floor disease (even though I scrub the bathroom floor and toilet 3-4x a week). Is this abnormal?

Next you're going to tell me you don't wash your hands the required 12 minutes each time you're in the bathroom.

I like to think of myself as an oversize germ, so nah I stopped caring for that. I used to be a big germaphobic when I was younger, but everyone around me to stop that.

I would probably have done the same but only if I dropped the cap in the toilet. On the floor, meh. Goes right back on the tube. My immune system will pick up the slack if need be.

So I toss the brand new tube and run out to buy a new tube.

Allicrombie

My solution would have been a little bitty bit of aluminum foil stuck to the open end of the tube. Ta-da!

Like, not even enough to wrap around the end, just enough to cover the hole. The toothpaste will hold it fast.

lol, and that's exactly what you did too! I stopped reading after you said how you washed the cap with a combination of 409 and other harsh chemicals. If you find yourself doing that its just like "man, go buy a new tube already." :P

why not brush after the cap had hit the floor, then got a new?

i mean you opened the toothpaste to brush your teeth, whats it matter had the cap hit the floor or not? beforehand, of course.

I hate to have to tell you this, but uh, you know those germs and bacteria you brush out of your mouth? They don't just disappear from the toothbrush bristles if you brush often.

Your body and all the bacteria living in it (especially the mouth) can probably handle a lot more than you give it credit for. If you find yourself changing full sized toothpaste tubes with every brushing, try asking yourself where the guaranteed harm lies: in the possible illness or in the actual financial and temporal loss. But you can only really say it's too much if it really messes with your life. (Some people spend hours trying to scrub stuff down more than they should and end up not being able to get to work on time, for example).

I wouldve picked it off the floor and put it back on the tube. Its a cap. Only the inside which the floor did not touch, is touched by the toothpaste.

Assuming question is real, I have one - do you close the toilet lid after you flush each time?

I read somwhere about how much fecal matter goes flying throughout the bathroom area when the the toilet gets flushed and maybe you could track that info to cure yourself of your phobia.

It's like a $hitbomb. A free disease bath. A fecal film over everything. You can't see it unless the lighting is just right because it's a vapor, but what a vapor!

LOL That's crazy man.

If I'm eating a cookie and a piece falls on the floor, provided the floor seems clean and dry, I pick it up and eat it. Helps my body in creating defenses.

Sounds a bit much to me, I wouldn't have bothered washing it, actually I probably wouldnt have even picked it up if it dropped in an awkward location.

They say food needs a minute and a half to get a bit of bacteria when you drop it on the floor, and even then it's not really a big deal. Forgot what happened when they tested double dipping chips..........but i do know everything in your bathroom has a small bit of feces on it, even your toothbrush! It's just so small that it doesn't cause harm to you, it happens because it just circulates in the air when you flush. The dirtiest things in a house IIRC were Dish sponge Computer keyboard money THEN the toilet seat.

How is your immune system gonna fight off real diseases if you don't condition it first with minor stuff like toothpaste caps falling on the floor. You are ironically sending yourself to an early grave.

therapy is probably needed. Give your immune system more credit than what your're currently giving it. Unless you weakend it by making it dependant on pharmaceuticals. For a specie so intelligent and resourceful many of use became addicts to the biggest drug dealers on the planet. Do you think all the other animals/creatures in this world go to the doctor for every little thing or is afraid to eat off of the floor? We made ourselves this way, so insecure, always living in fear of everything imaginable.

OK Allie, time to see the therapist. Tossing a whole tube of toothpaste out due to the cap hitting the floor and then cleaning said cap with several different cleaners (how you didn't have a bad chemical reaction and a poison gas cloud form is beyond me), was overkill as the top was clean. 409 would have sufficed as well as just bleach or just soap.

If you leave the lid of your toilet up, you are more likely to have fecal matter all over your bathroom and towels than you would elsewhere in the house though they get transported by your hands and feet (a really good reason to put the lid down before anyone flushes). The fact that more people are getting sick nowadays due to not being introduced to the bacteria and virii that some of us older people have means that they are not building up an immunity to said germs and are more likely to get sick. If anyone here has kids, send them outside to get dirty and muddy and get into all sorts of stuff so they can build up tolerances to germs and the like.
