Poll Have the Simpsons/South Park/Family Guy overstayed their welcome? (38 votes)
I say yes. TV shows can't last forever people.

South Park is still funny and sometimes thought provoking in it's own subversive sort of way.
Simpsons and Family Guy should have ended 10 years ago. Though I wouldn't mind the Simpsons being allowed to go on until it becomes the longest running scripted tv series of all time. Has it set that record yet?
The Simpsons and South Park? No. While still not near the quality of the first 10 seasons, the latest ones have been pretty decent. (The Simpsons)
Family Guy? Yes.
If viewers weren't watching those shows in sufficient numbers, the TV networks would've cancelled them already.
Old-timers may get tired of those shows. But, there's always a new crop of viewers coming up who aren't tired of them yet.
I've watched The Simpsons all the way back when it was just a sideshow in the Tracy Ullman Show. I'm not tired of it yet.

LOL
The Simpsons would have to run for 58 years for it to hit that record. The current longest-running scripted TV series of all time is Guiding Light, which ran for 57 years.
Yeah, though I think South Park is still good. Simpsons isn't funny anymore and Family Guy was never funny to begin with.
No, there's so much television packed in all the various channels at any time of the day I'm hardly at the point that I'm saying "such-n-such network needs to remove this show and pack this into its time slot".
@toast_burner: "Yes to all, but South Park is doing better than the other two."
In what ways?
Because every now and then it still has a decent episode.
The Simpsons have overstayed their welcome by at least 10 years.
Family Guy is alright.
Don't watch too much South Park so can't comment about that one.
No
There all still pretty good
South Park has gotten far better in last few years, the show is better written than ever now.
The Simpsons has drastically changed its humour in last 5-10 years to stay competitive with Seth McFarlenes shows, its worked the simpsons is better now than the early days
Family Guy has always been decent, but with an overuse of cutaway gags, out of the 3 shows family guy is the one I'm growing tired of.
I would have voted yes if it was just Family Guy.
South Park and The Simpsons I don't think I mind as much still running.
Family Guy feels like its been having too many crappy episodes in all seasons since, I dunno either maybe 4 or 5.
I definitely think the very first season was the best.
First of all American Dad is in another league compared to Family Guy and the Simpsons now, they should end. I do like South Park though.
Yes, none of those shows are as good as they used to be, ranging from half decent to awful episodes more often with a very, very rare great one that I would rewatch over and over. Family Guy is the worst offender though.

Seasons 2 and 3 were so much better than the 1st season of Family Guy IMO, Seasons 2 episodes like Da Boom, Brian in Love, Love Thy Trophy, I Am Peter, Hear Me Roar, Fifteen Minutes of Shame, Road to Rhode Island, He's Too Sexy for His Fat and Season 3's Mr. Griffin Goes to Washington, One If by Clam, Two If by Sea, And the Wiener Is..., Lethal Weapons, The Kiss Seen Around the World, A Fish Out of Water, To Love and Die in Dixie, Peter Griffin: Husband, Father... Brother?, Ready, Willing, and Disabled, Stuck Together, Torn Apart, Road to Europe and When You Wish Upon a Weinstein are some of my fav episodes of that show! Hell I think Season 3 is the best!!!
I'd say no for The Simpsons
I would say the exact opposite. The Simpsons used to be one of my favorite shows and now I can't suffer myself to watch an entire episode.
South Park is still funny and sometimes thought provoking in it's own subversive sort of way.

iirc there are soap opera shows that have been running for like 50+ years
The Simpsons? Nah, despite a huge decline in quality they still make some decent episodes and the show itself is basically an icon for cartoons.
South Park? Same story as with The Simpsons but I don't think their show declined that badly in comparison. They still make a lot of good episodes.
Family Guy? Was never good to begin with. In their earlier seasons they were copying The Simpsons a lot, and in later seasons all they do is fart, rape, and recycled jokes.
@thehig1: "The Simpsons has drastically changed its humour in last 5-10 years to stay competitive with Seth McFarlenes shows, its worked the simpsons is better now than the early days"
What you mean?
Its a better show now than it was in the 90s, its evolved over the years and watching later episodes (season 20 onwards) you can tell more of the humour is similar to Family Guy/American Dad
I never watched South Park, watched little Family Guy a few years back and used to watch the Simpsons as a kid. So basically I don't know what's going on with any of them but its not hard to figure out that the quality must be utter shit at this point. No creative work can sustain this number of episodes while maintaining a satisfactory level of quality it just defies how the world in general works and the creative field in particular.
@thehig1:
They did stories based on their fictional universe while it seems modern Simpsons try to reflect the real world. And yourself said they were keeping up Family Guy.
I think I prefer that type of humour, explains why I prefer modern Simpsons.
It is preference and opinion but I would never dare to compare whatever the hell is that the current impostors Simpsons are doing to 90's Simpsons. And no, that ain't nostalgia talking (mostly).
Why would I want the Simpsons to resemble Family Guy? If I wanted that kind of comedy I would watch....Family Guy.
The Simpsons will NEVER be as "edgy" [even if they were kind of edgy at the beginning relative to their contemporaneous TV norms] and irreverent as Family Guy and that's the point, the Simpsons didn't have to.
The Simpsons style of understated yet powerful and everlasting satirical commentary on American culture was sublime.
Family Guy, in part, is just a more crass, vulgar and over the top version of it. And I don't mind it, I love Family Guy too, I just like them both separately.
I feel like South Park has been on an upswing during the last few seasons. That or I'm super biased because of the Cock Magic episode.

A hell of a lot better I say, episodes even had emotion, something that's missing in newer episodes of The Simpsons.
