Last month i decided to go on a diet of just water and healthy foods and exercise every day, and 2 weeks in after losing 15 pounds i just gave up completely and started eating a lot of fast food. Now its two weeks later and im back to being on a diet again suprisingly two weeks of eating fast food and soda i only gained 2 pounds.

I'm healthy as it is, I jog to and from work (2 hour jog). So I really don't need to go on a diet.

I've had that problem before. Personally, I think it's due to the "shock" that you get when you go from unhealthy to healthier foods, and it is difficult to get past that.

Sometimes the best way to prevent that from happening is to eat smaller portions of unhealthy foods (for example, instead of having a big mac with the meal, you go for the regular cheeseburger with water instead) and limit it for a couple of days until you gradually give it up. It also helps to add some variety to your meal and have some dessert like fruits or dark chocolate (of course, in a moderate amount). What I do is add some raisins or fruits for my dessert after I've eaten my lean meats and veggies. Others have a cheat day where you could have one meal of anything you like. It also helps to chew slowly.

However it's all disciplineand your goal(s). If it's to join the armed service or to look sexy for the ladies (or guys), if you ever have that craving again when you're not suppose to, think about your goals. It's also best not to think negative thoughts like you can't do it. Overall, you can practice whatever method there is but the determining factor in those methods is discipline.

Be flexible about your methods and use common sense. ;)

Super drastic changes rarely work. Start with something small like no soft drinks.

Exercise is the only real way to lose weight. I went on a million fad diets, and none of them worked. I rode an Exercycle for an hour a day then lost 65 pounds.

This is true. Specifically, cardio (i.e. stairmaster, running) and lifting weights helps a lot when it comes to losing weight.

No, going on diets by definition are only temporary, least that's what I think of em. If youre gonna change it's gotta be a permanent thing.

I wouldn't just say a diet as in a fad diet but I was more conscious of what I was eating and how much. Add that to working out almost daily I went from 260 to 175 as of today. Took me over a year but if you stick it, it works.

that's how i see it too; maintaining a healthy body weight is more about a lifestyle change than just simply a diet change. i do like the idea of "cheat days" that a previous poster mentioned, but you just have to make sure those days are few and far between and that you still keep up regular exercise.

btw, where is that gif (the right one) in your sig from? makes me lol everytime i see it

Flexible dieting/IIFYM>>>>All I'm cutting weight and eating a minimum of 2 bowls of cereal a day, some ice cream, and for the most part whatever I want within reason. As soon as you make crazy rules, is where you'll fail. Weight loss is all about expenditure>>>intake. So if you don't like brown rice, chicken breast, sweet potatoes, or any of that bull that's constantly pushed around for no reason, don't eat it. It's the illusion of complexity.

Ya it took me over 6 months last year to go from 230 to 180 and then something happened and I started eating fast food a lot and I gained all the weight back again. It's taken me 3 months to from 225 to my current weight 200. Still got a ways to go. And after this round I'm done being fat. It fvckin' sucks. I was never ever a fat kid until a few years ago.

I've tried but it never works for me. I either stay the same or gain more.

Although I have managed to lose 5kg/11lbs from doing nothing.

Well I went on a diet and I've kept pretty much to it since. I still pig out every now and again, but I'm the fittest I've been in years.

The best way to go on a diet is to write down EVERYTHING you eat every day. You'd be surprised about how much you eat that you "forget" and then wonder why you're not losing weight. :P

Once you get a handle on how much you eat, start eating less every day until the weight starts rolling off.

Exercise is good for you and strengthens you body - but the only true way to lose weight is just to eat less.

What's with the healthy water, and what do you consider healthy food. You don't need to go on a diet, you just need to stop eating fast food, that stuff is crap.

It's hard to do extremes like that. You should do it little by little if you want it to be an actual lifestyle change. Like try to stop drinking soda (or whatever sugary drink you may drink) first, then try replacing whole grains with wheat, then try cutting back on really fatty foods, and so on. Even then you should always allow yourself some leeway. If you really love cake then treat yourself to a small slice (more about portion control than anything) every few weeks or something. I mean some people really have that self-control and can do it from the get-go, but I think more don't.

Yeah, I have yo-yoed in terms of dieting and exercising though. I've been doing fairly well for quite some time. Just aiming to do even better.

When I started seriously working out a little over a month ago I tried cutting myself off sweets as well but that lasted about a week. :P

Still work out 6 days a week though. And I did stop drinking soda (except occasionally when I go out for dinner).

Yeah, plenty of times. I always hated myself for a while after breaking my diet which eventually lead to me starving myself and only eating like one thing a day.

Really regret doing that now.

For me soda is easy to drop until I decide to have some casually, then I get hooked on the stuff and I have to detox all over again.

diets are hard to do, cutting calories just slows your metabolism thus causing weight gain from the food you do eat, I usually find working out shows better results that's not to disregard the benefits of "diet" in the sense of being aware of proper nutrition and avoiding foods that are bad for you, that's always useful stuff to know

Not really, I mean you are bound to slip up a few times but 2 weeks is just lol. I found that when I did Intermittent Fasting (Fast 16-20 hours) everyday and ate within a small window of time it helped me stay on track and I just felt a lot better (not as hungry, more energy etc) I could also fit in fast food every now and again as long as it fit the macro's for the day.

I found that limiting the carbs was the hardest part, but it gave me the most results. I went off the diet after I dropped from 190 to 174 and decided there just wasn't enough muscle mass on my body for it to get that "aesthetic" look and I would have had to drop down to sub 170 in order to see my abs so I went back to justeating at maintenance for about a week or two and started bulking. Now my goals are just to get stronger, add muscle mass to my frame and cut down when I feel like I've progressed enough. Of course fat gains are a pain, but unavoidable even on the perfect diet when bulking.

The key is just to go easy with the diet honestly. Treat yourself to the things you want occasionally but just limit them if your goal is to lose weight. Most people who do not do this end up going back to their old eating habits and quitting.

I don't understand the concept of going on a diet. So you think you'll be healthy by eating healthy food for a month? Two months? Three? If you want to live a healthy life you have to have to always have a healthy diet.

I've changed my diet before, but I've never gone on a diet. I just don't really understand that. I have just stopped eating before, though.
