Have you ever heard a song on the radio and remembered something about a previous time when you heard the song?

It was weird, last Saturday (not two days ago, the week before that), I heard a song on the radio in my basement (for the second time in two weeks, and then I would hear it again for a third time the following Wednesday) that my sister used to listen to on her computer very frequently in late 2008 (so frequently that I can actually remember a lot of the song's words). Aside from those recent times hearing the song (the first recent time I heard it was the day after labor day), I hadn't heard it since late 2008 (like December) or maybe perhaps a few months into 2009. But on the Saturday that I heard the song, I heard a line I didn't remember, where the song says "I grabbed (something I don't know what the next word is) and an old napkin and I wrote down our song", and for some reason that jogged an old memory from when I must've heard the song in 2008: I remember it was dark outside and I was walking in the kitchen, on the left side of the table, in between the middle of the table and the window and I was facing in the direction of the living room, which would mean I was facing West. I also remembered the top of the table was made with green tiles, It's not the same table I have now. We got the current table a few years after that, I think probably in the summer of 2010 when we got the couches in the basement. i had somewhat forgot about that table, but that memory last Saturday reminded me of it. In the memory of the "scene" that I just mentioned I only remember seeing the top of the table.

I could see how sometimes a song can prompt a memory of a certain event, but it's kind of weird that it caused me to recall that memory, it wasn't really a "memorable" event or something, it was very mundane: I was walking past my table. But for some reason hearing the line I mentioned above caused me to remember that brief moment of walking past the table: I'm guessing that the line probably caused me to remember that incident because I probably heard that line (maybe for the first time) when I was walking past the table.

Also, even though the day after Labor Day was the first time in years since I heard the song, periodically parts of it have been popping into my head since January or February of this year. It first started one day when I was eating breakfast, thinking about something to say on this site about Obama, and I picked up my cup of milk to drink and I thought something, I think "Obama don't know" and into my head popped "cause it's late and Obama don't know" and I thought that sounded vaguely familiar and then after a few seconds part of the song were getting stuck in my head.

Almost every pop song from the late 90's reminds me of the school bus. The driver used to play it loud to drown out all the squealing girls.

Shiny Toy Guns Le Disko reminds me of my girlfriend, not that I often forget about her! More like when we first met and our times in Nottingham.

I don't listen to music when I drive much anymore. I've got a short commute to work, 20 minutes at most, so it's mostly commercials by the time I get to work/home. I usually listen to sports talk radio. In all honesty, whatever is on the radio becomes background noise after a few minutes driving anyway.

Yeah some of them do that.

Why do you avoid those songs? I could see songs that bring up unpleasant memories, but do you avoid songs that bring up mundane things (like what I mentioned before about walking past a table, the memory only lasted like a second, though it took a lot longer to describe it in the OP).

Yup. Those are the only songs I have tied to memories

I imagine that was probably an uncomfortable experience for anyone who liked the sound levels at a reasonable range.

Anyway, I remember certain math formulas when listening to music. The audio patterns help me think about the mathematical patterns based on general formulas.

Very much so. I often would buy a new album before a major trip, so songs from that album would trigger memories of being away from home.
