I recently found out that around September I will be moving from Upstate NY to Dallas, Texas. I am a sophomore in high school (16 years old), and I don't know how to react to the news.

I have moved before, when I was 11, and I adjusted very well and made a lot of new friends. I think my moving experience greatly helped me as an individual, even though I was very reluctant and sad to move at the time.

Though, my main concern is a new school. I have many friends where I am now, I take AP courses (some of which are not offered elsewhere), and involved in student government and honor society. I have always known what the rest of my high school career would look like, and how it would play out if I live here for the rest of it. Like I said, I don't know if I should see this as a bad thing, or more of an adventure.

Have you moved before (in your adolescence)? Experiences/thoughts?

Yeah we had to move from my native Denver to lame-ass Kali. At least you're upgrading. :)

I moved twice but I was too young both times, the second time was because both of my parents work and somebody had to take care of my brothers and I so we moved to my grandmothers house, besides the school is directly in front of the house, the old house is still my parents property tho.

No, never. But I'd love too.

Take it as something good. I mean, new place, new people, new house, new routine.. Aside from being away from your friends, a change can be refreshing :)

Moved from colombia, to the usa, to spain and now to the UK. The first few weren't voluntary and were hard on me when I was a kid. The last one was pleasant since I just moved to uni.

I was born in Alabama, moved to Mississippi for a few years, and moved back to Alabama and I've been here most of my life.

Once. I moved from a small city, to a massive one. Took me a while to adjust, but I love it now.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with Texas but the South is quite different from New York, even upstate New York.

Moving as a 16 year old is probably the worst time to move (ideal time would be when you change schools or start high school), but at least you'll start in the beginning of the school year. As long as you are friendly and establish yourself you should have a good time.

As for academics those will work themselves out with the school adviser and what not, I would mainly concentrate on making friends.

Uh yeah.

I was born in Louisianna but my parents wanted to move somewhere else because it was costing too much money to "run away" from hurricanes.

So we moved to a neighborhood in Texas, stayed there for a few years, then moved to another house in San Antonio, Texas.

Meh. lol

Well, your winters will be shorter, that's a plus. The chicks are hotter in Texas, that's a plus. When you're of age to drink, the beer choices are better in Texas, that's a plus. The bar-b-que is better in Texas than New York, that's a plus. Adventure, plus. The live music capital, Austin, is right down the road, plus! You can shoot your neighbors in Texas, plus!

Yea, I've moved about 5 or 6 times. We've stayed in the same area though (within 30 miles).

My first house we had was a 1200 sq ft house. It was small with me along with my brother and sister. Then we moved to an even smaller house (my grandma's old house) while we built are new house on the same street.

Then we moved to that house with 3,000 sq ft and 11 acres of land. Then we moved back to my grandma's house again when my dad lost his job and we had no money to keep it. That was torture because it was so small and I could see my big house from there.

We've been renting with less space and a small yard since then (8 or so years) and I'm 18 now. My dad lost his job again last year and he's 63 now so it's kind of hard to find a new one. So, it's been downhill. :P

I lived in the same house til I was 21  I've moved a fair bit since then though.

It sucks you have to move TC but I'm sure it'll be a good thing in the end, the only bad thing is moving away from your friends, and you can always keep in touch and visit.
