I was dragged to see Final Destination 5 the other day and after about 10 minutes it hit me... I do not find gore and excessive violence entertaining anymore. I was literally annoyed and angered by what was being shown and if I had it my way I would have left the theater.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not someone that advocates against violent video games / films, but I was quite surprised to find myself repulsed. I have watched and enjoyed films with extreme violence before, none of them really impacting me, but now it seems that I've grown out of grotesque violence.

Has anyone else reached the point where you're kind of just past the whole appeal of extremely violent imagery?

I've never liked torture porn. They're generally bad movies. I don't mind violent movies, but there has to be some sort of purpose to the violence. Final Destination is literally an excuse to show people dying in creative ways.

I actually made the decision to stop watching very violent and gory movies back in July. Honestly, I think after seeing so many they were starting to have a very bad effect on my mind so that's why I decided to stop watching them.

I love violence in movies as much as the next guy, but senselessly over the top violence for shock factor (Final Destination, SAW, etc.) I've never been into.

I have no problem with extreme violence/gore when it's in a context where it's warranted (ex: A particularly brutal scene in a crime drama meant to highlight the dire situation the characters now find themselves in). I do hate it when it's just violence and gore for the sake of being "edgy" or "cool" since then it just comes off as juvenile. I actually laugh at a lot of over-the-top death scenes in movies/shows these days.

I feel the same as others; I've always thought a movie or game being violent just for the sake of shock value or to see how violent it can be is kind of dumb and has never been entertaining to me. It has to be surrounded by something of substance.

You say you have "grown out" of watching movies like this, meaning you think you are more mature somehow? Well get off of your high horse. You knew what the movie was about before you went.

I am 50 and i have seen just about every violent movie ever made. Some are better than others, some more sick than others, some more funny than others. It really just depends on a lot of factors to pull off a good violent gory movie. Dont condem the movie if you dont like that sort of thing, and worse dont look down your nose at people who do like that kind of movie or pretend you are above them because you think you have better taste.

I don't mind it, but avoid it for the most part as they movies that use it are generally stupid as dirt, yet bloody games are usually pretty sweet. I watched a movie called Audition a few days ago and although the violence was a good part of the movie that was also the first movie to truly disturb me a bit lol. Glad I watched it with a friend..

Yeah, I grew out of it when I was in my teens, and my desire to see it has only tapered off slowly since then. Again, with proper context, I'm not opposed to it. But I can't say I'm really interested in something because of its violence. Since we're on a gaming forum, just look at Fallout 3/New Vegas. In the previews leading up to the release of those games (especially 3), there was tons of talk about the kill-cam in vats and how "awesome" that was. I can't say I've ever been bothered to turn it off, but I've never thought it was particularly cool...partially because of just how overdone it is.

If maturing puts you on a "high horse" then you've got some pretty weird standards my friend. I said it because I used to enjoy extremely violent movies. I hadn't seen one in two years and then saw that killfest and it disturbed me. So call it what you want, but I will say that I have grown out of it.

Never saw how they were fun in the first place.

Especially Mortal Kombat. I just find it creepy.

I seriously will never get why people love to see others die in crazy ways

No I don't think so. I want to go see final Destination 5. Keep in mind this is escape-ism entertainment in the form of a teenage fantasy snuff film. I would rate it as extremely violent. This film is going to be very bad/formulatic/cheesy. But over the top corny Snuff film.

This is a popcorn movie that is meant to be just escapism entertainment. Not really gory or realistic violence. Not worth the $16.00 for 3D maybe a rental at best.

Like some others have said, I only see it as a good thing when it's a necessity, (Someone above about a crim drama, perfect example). But if a film is just hacking people apart etc, then its just pointless :')

To some degree. When it doesn't take itself seriously, I can still enjoy it, but gratuitous sex or violence for the sake if it doesn't grab me much anymore.

I like violent movies but there has to be a purpose. I would never watch a violent movie that is overly violent just for entertainment.

Most definitely worth the $ for the 3D. It was the best use of 3D since Avatar. It is not a bad film either. Good directing builds up nicely to the kill scenes, it keeps you guessing how they are going to die. It is well photographed too.

Why you went to see Final Destination really puzzles me....

I hate movies that are just gorey to be gorey but I love action packed movies where the gore can be justified.

I don't mind violence in films. It doesn't bother me like it used to. I hate those films like Saw though that have no substance and use excessive violence for no reason other than to try and be shocking.

Regarding Final Destination 5, I saw a trailer on TV for it yesterday which left me amazed. It basically showed all the death scenes which is exactly the reason you go to see it. I didn't care about the film before that yet it made me care even less.

I've never been into violence for violence's sake.

However, I do appreciate violence if it is well contextualized.

I'm not as eager to hunt down snuff videos/violent death videos online to share with my friends as I was (no more Cannibal Holocausts, no more Martyrs), but I'm always up for a good exploitation B-movie. Watched Hobo with a Shotgun with a friend a few weeks ago and enjoyed it for what it was.

I won't say that I have, but I will say that when people are younger they feel obligated to be into the violent stuff because it makes them feel more mature. It's really no different than a 12-year old kid saying Pokemon is lame and that real games only play Call of Duty. I'll watch it if it has a story but for the sake of grossing you out I'll probably pass. Last week I watched "The Human Centipede" (watch at your own risk if you have Netflix instant). It wasn't a gore-fest, but what the lead villain did to his three victims was just disgusting.

Now excuse me while my wife forcfully drags me to the theater to watch The Smurfs.

Nevar! *punch* ...except from some asian (japanese?) gorey flick. Can't bring myself to remember the name, but I remember that a young couple got abducted by some deranged criminal who made them go through all sorts of his torture devices. Yeah, I felt like a line had been drawn there...

Still like it. Though i had a similiar experience with the new parana movie.

The gore and guts just had no meaning. Its one of the few times i remember actually getting disgusted.

Just didnt feel right.

I've never liked violence or gore that much. Now it's just annoying to me. Even watching the trailer of FD5 made me cringe, because I knew there would be zero storyline, just a lot of senselessly violent deaths. I think movies with less violence or less emphasis on violence tend to be better, if a movie relies on violence to carry it, it's probably a horrible movie.
