Yeah it did the same to me. It opened me up into the world of graphic novels. Some of my other favourites are The Killing Joke, and The Dark Knight Returns!:DOh my god yes. I loved reading Watchmen. The graphic novel opened me into exploring other graphic novels aswell; but nothing compares to Watchmen.
Now I'm super stoked for the movie and to see how that goes.

highly overrated but enjoyable book. Too much elaboration on the parts of the story that didn't really do much for me. The beginning and most of the end were done incredibly well. Just wish those parts were longer, and the middle was shrunk. About 40% of the book was filler material to me. Especially the *SPOILERS* comic inside a comic..it took up so many panels. At first I liked it, but they dedicated so much unneccesary page space to it.
Highly question the movie at this point. I just don't see the personalities of the book translating well to the big screen. But oh well, Joker comes out this week so I'm hoping it rocks my world.
I wouldn't call the comic-within-a-comic filler; it foreshadowed many of the events that would happen later in the book. I've started to re-read the book again, and much of the stuff that I've previously considered filler serves a purpose now that I know what's inevitably going to happen.highly overrated but enjoyable book. http://comics.ign.com/articles/918/918936p1.htmlcan't wait...might make a topic on it.
I understand the meaning behind the comic-within-a-comic I just thought it was unneccesary, and really didn't do much for me.
It was really good. The movie could turn out to be good, but it wont be the same Watchmen. The comic wouldn't translate well to a movie.krazykillaz
hate to go off-topic, but did you make this post in the redesign beta? i have a problem, and a hunch about it's origins.

Yeah, I've looked into The Killing Joke and I'm currently reading The Dark Knight Returns. I've also bought 6/7 of the Sin City novels and also purchased V for Vendetta. Lastly, I plan to buy some volumes of Transmetropolitan.

Dude, that stuff reflected what was going on in the main storyline. It wasn't filler at all. Furthermore, if you paid attention, you'd see that that comic-in-a-comic was done by the missing comic book artist who was absolutely critical to the plot of the comic. The Black Freighter comic was an indispensible character in the book. Did you skip over the end-of-book articles or something?Did you stop reading once you got to the text that wasn't accompanied by pictures? I suggest that you re-read Watchmen, and this time read ALL of it.
Yup, loved it. Can't wait for the movie, even if there are rumors that they changed the ending.
If anything, I would prefer that they change it. The finale may be fine in the book, but on movie screens...I could see it looking absolutely ridiculous.

Isn't the ending supposed to be pretty absurd?
I have probably read it ten times, and I've been wanting to read it again before the movie comes out, but my boyfriend borrowed my copy and it's taking him forever to read it. Maybe I'll just have to buy another one.
Does anyone know if they are still planning on animating the comic-within-a-comic and putting it as an extra on the dvd release?

blah blah blah, it was useless nonsense...still haven't convinced me that the great parts of the book weren't shortened to extend parts that just weren't all that fun, or great to read
yes.dave123321IE sucks. Your avatar is Downey at home, but here it's still the main guy of that movie >_>

Interesting.Damn IE.The other guy was not the main guy though. More of a minor character.

Right, but this is the guy that the movie starts with and it's because of him they figure everything out. Well, and he keeps popping up, regardless. I suppose he didn't really do much.I can't wait for that! I'm highly surprised that the Joker has a Heath Ledger-style to him though. Wondering how the character will turn out. I loved the Killing Joke, but it was so short! I would've loved it if they could've gotten more in-depthhighly overrated but enjoyable book.
