I ask this beause after I played a few tracks off of the most recent Kanye album, my Mom (who doesn't typically listen to rap) actually came to lke it more than do (and I rank that album in my top albums of all time) even if alot of the vulgarity doesn't sit well with her.

Do any of you have any similar experiences?

My mom heard some Florence + The Machine songs when she was riding with me and now she can't get enough of her. She even had me download the b-sides album for her.

Not really. My mom has come to like some of the very mainstream bands that I also like (Daughtry, Hedley, Black Eyed Peas) but the vast majority of the music I listen to (punk/alternative rock) my parents have no interest in.

My parents and I share a lot of similarities in our music tastes.

Radiohead, The Beatles, Neil Young, Sufjan Stevens, Talking Heads, Frank Zappa, Doves...

I got them into some artists (Radiohead, Sufjan), they got me into others (Neil Young, Zappa).

My parents think it's kinda demonic what I listen to. I don't blame them though, they grew up on east europian folk music.

The closest that my dad gets to metal is Black Sabbath, but in no way is even that with him "hooked"

Most of the music that I listen to I got from my dad's record collection...when I was a young lad I'd always listen to the records he had of the Beach boys, Beatles, Neil Young, Buddy Holly etc..

So...yes:P

I started into classic rock through my dad's musical preferences and stayed there for a good 3-4 years. My parents don't like much of what i listen to now, but my mother seemed to like Sigur Ros to some extent when I started listening to them.

I listen to a lot of extreme metal. My dad respects it since he recognizes the close similarities to classical and certain forms of jazz.

My mom has only been impressed with some of the solos. She always asks me to play them on guitar/bass for her. She also enjoys all the stuff I listen to that isn't metal (indie, folk, prog, noise rock/pop). She doesn't really like the filthier dubstep or electronic music I listen to though.

For the most part they hate what I listen to, Mostly Metalcore and Screamo. But I was playing Wierd Al one day around my Mom. And she thought it was great. She has alot of his songs on her Ipod now.

My dad prefers the hip hop, rap, and some rock like my sister likes but my mom likes it all. She likes anything from lady gaga to metallica but none of them like metal.

I usually take CDs in the car, I think my mom said she liked Viva la Vida (the album) but my dad called it crap by track 3 :P.

I don't know what's up, but regarding some other bands I like, my mom actually told me I listen to "boring music".:|

My mom grew up in the era of Led Zepplin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath etc, so in a way she's just rediscovering her passions. My dad on the other hand strikes down anything that's not Elvis.
