Having facial hair makes a guy look attractive to girls ?

Does having facial hair ( beard , moustache or a stubble) makes a guy look attractive to girls ? Most of the attractive models / actors i see are clean shaven.

How many of you keep facial hair OT , say from your own experience :)

It will to some, and it won't to others.

My girl is really easy to please...if I shave (which I normally do) she comments on how nice and smooth it feels, if I skip a day or 2 she comments on how sexy it look....win/win with her. She doesn't like full mustaches or beards but neither do it (they're really itchy XD) so no worries.

The overwhelming majority of women (70-80%) in Anglophone countries prefer their men clean shaven. I'm East Asian and can't really grow that much facial hair, which is good because my home country probably has an even more extreme preference for clean shaven men.

@Barbariser: You're lucky...I need to do a 4 pass shave (one in each direction) to even look clean shaven...and even if I do it every day, by the end of the day I look like most guys do when they haven't shaved for a week.

I personally think I look better with facial hair, but it hasn't worked haha. Of course being clean shaven didn't work either. Oh well.

People say I look more intimidating. I don't think it does, confident maybe, but not intimidating. Anyways I find some chicks either really dig it, or they really don't.

It deponds on the person wearing the facial hair and also the girl. A small amount I know are loving facial hair.

I go with stubble. I haven't shaved with a razor in years. I couldn't tell you how much money I've saved by using a trimmer rather than buying disposable razors all these years.

No, that's not too expensive at all. How many blades per razor and which brand/model? Are they razors or just the blades?

My apologies to the TC since this will be a bit of a long post and slightly off-topic but it might have people who want to be clean shaven but don't really know the best way to do it...

@bforrester420: Well, my facial hair is messed up; it grows in every direction. I can shave with the grain and sideways and I still look like I haven't shaved for 2 days, so I have no choice but to shave against the grain, and since I have really sensitive skin it was pretty much torture. I used to use a Gillette Mach 3, then upgraded to a Fusion (if 3 blades were good, 5 blades would be better, right?) but even so I could never get that "baby bottom smooth" look and feel. To make it even worse, my face would feel like I had just been mauled by a bear and I couldn't shave again for 2 or 3 days or it would just start bleeding everywhere.

Then, a couple of months ago, I decided to try safety razors and bought myself a Edwin Jagger DE89...it's a single blade and everyone warned me to be REALLY gentle while shaving with it...first time I tried I managed to nick myself twice but the result was so much better in 1 pass than with the Fusion with 3 passes. To make it even better, my skin felt only slightly irritated.

If the following weeks I started applying less and less pressure and the results improved. Nowadays I can shave every day with 4 passes (one in each direction to make sure I get everything), takes me 5 minutes to do and I actually enjoy shaving (which I always thought was BS when I heard people say it) and the result is amazing...my cheeks looks like they haven't even reached puberty =P And there's absolutely no pain, razor burn, ingrown hairs, nothing, even shaving against the grain.

But to answer your question, 1 (really sharp!) blade per razor, lasts me a week in peak sharpness (they're so cheap, there's no reason to keep them unless they're perfectly sharp) but you can use it for longer if you really want, any brand safety razor blade will do since they're all the same size and shape. The razor itself cost me around 30$ but it will probably last me a lifetime. Of course the safety razor addicts (I'm getting there!) will recommend a whole range of products, from badger hair brushes to sandalwood shaving cream but I only got the razor and a pack of blades to start (although since I really enjoy that "me time" now, I might go for the whole experience).

In the beginning I was a bit doubtful that it would work (most damn videos show a guy who's already clean shaven shaving his face) but this video sold it for me. He actually has facial hair and you see it all in one go so you know it's for real. He also explains how to work with a safety razor, so it might help =)

When I was younger I was so interested in having a full bear. I could only grow a thin mustache but I remember not shaving it for three years. Now I don't see a big difference to having a full beard or not really. Oh by the way wait till @BossPerson hears about this thread.

@indzman: If I let it grow, which I normally don't. One thing that I have going for me is that I've got an even growth, so it grows everywhere at the same time, so no patches of hair in random places like I see on some guys...

On the bad side, if I skip shaving for a day, I get a Hollywood style stubble, no work required...2 days without shaving I look like I have a trimmed beard, no work required...

3 days without shaving...all of a sudden I look like some sort of experiment gone wrong on your average homeless guy.

You grow facial hair very fast , means you have to shave almost everyday before office which is good as you will look clean and shaved everyday :)

Some women like clean shaven while others like a mustache and beard. Individuals have a variety of preferences for a variety of reasons. Maybe some lady out there loves a man with a windmill beard.

I'm rather fond of guys with facial hair, but no Santa Claus beards or anything like that.

Girls usually either prefer a more rugged looking man or a more clean-cut looking man, depending on their interests and lifestyle.

@indzman: it depends on the guy. Some guys wear facial hair well. While others looks awful. Also the amount of facial hair matters. Guys with a little scruff is fine. But guys with bushy beards look bummish to me.

I generally go for clean shaven guys though.

I like my man with hair on his face. I also look better when I'm not clean shaven, it helps that I'm too lazy to shave.

I just have an aversion to shaving, which is why I only shave when I absolutely have to.

Some love it, others don't. Most don't care one way or the other, IMO. Same with any kind of fashion. I typically have a beard though.

Good to see I am not the only safety razor user on the site. I switched back in January and am so happy I did.

I got the Merker 180 (Also known as the Merker 23c).

I am testing blades and I also have some Astra blade. I also bought a 100 pack of Personna blades and like them more than the Astra. I plan on buying some Feather blades next to try.

What soaps do you use? I am also trying different soaps and so far I have

Proraso New Shaving Soap Pot Sandalwood

Proraso Shaving Soap, Eucalyptus & Menthol

Out of those, I have only used the Almond Colonel Conk and the Green Proraso soap. The green Proraso soap is absolutely fantastic. I love the smell, how well and easy it lathers, but most of all, I love the feel of it on my face and how it leaves my face feeling after the shave. The Almond smells really great, but I have only used it once, so I can't really judge how well it lathers yet. The Bay Rum also smells great, but I have yet to use it.

My girl also uses it. I am aiming to get her the Muhle R89 Rosegold razor and get me an Above the Tie razor.

Anyways, it is great to see somebody else on the site that shaves the same way I do.

Like everyone says, it comes down to each person's taste. Personally I don't know yet because my facial hair isn't 100% developed yet, still shave once a month. Guess I'll see in about 6 months what the results are.

These were my high school teachers (french mandatory, part of quebec). Awesome bunch, but the guy with the pink shirt was my economics teacher. Very direct and to the point, and his beard made him all the more intimidating. Kids don't argue with this guy when the cellphones would get confiscated lol. Very knowledgeable and smart guy though. Great teacher.

Like I said, I only started using the safety razor a few months ago, so I still have tons of the old products...stupidly enough, about 2 weeks before I started reading up on safety razors, my local supermarket had a ridiculous promotion on Gillette shaving gel...a box of 10 cans for the price of 1...still trying to get rid of all of it since I don't like wasting, but I'm really looking forward to be done with it and get some proper soap...I will definitely check out the ones you mentioned.

As for the razors, I bought a 100 blade Astra pack with my razor and I'm not even halfway through the pack...once it's done I will probably buy small packs of several different brands to try them out. Hadn't heard of Personna, but I heard Feather are even sharper than Astra.

It's probably hard for people to believe, but switching to safety razors was probably the best thing that has happened to me this year (not counting me getting married =P). What used to be a 20 minute torture that ended up in crappy results turned into one of the favourite parts of my day; it really feels like I'm pampering myself...and it seriously improved my self-image (having to walk around with a 3 day beard because my face just couldn't handle the razor more often really made me feel unclean and ashamed...)

That shaving gel is bad for your skin...I mean really bad. Get the book "The Art of Shaving" and read it. You will then know what I mean.

Here are the Personna Blades. Feather blades are the sharpest blades in the world (not my opinion, but fact), so I suggest waiting a bit before buying those until you think you want to try something that sharp.

Yeah same here. My grandson takes top spot for the year, but me switching is up there. I hated shaving before I switched and would got weeks sometimes looking like a homeless person just because I hated shaving. I no longer get razor bumps or razor burn. The shave is way better too. Baby butt smooth.

This is the brush I got and this is the brush I am upgrading to. I will give the first one to my girl.
