2 Dead, 13 injured when a helicopter was crashed into a building in London.

I saw the aftermath outside my window earlier, an entire part of the city was engulfed in smoke.

I don't think it was a terrorist attack.

The article says it hit a crane. Why would you even bring terrorism into this? Sad to hear though.

I read about that. Pretty sad. Doesn't happen often in any major city.

well they must be pretty bad terrorists if they are as the only people they managed to kill was themselves.

Parts of the helicopter hit the station, also, petrol fell into the street, causing a big fire.

Pilots typically go where the tower instructs them. There are air routes over every major city. It isn't like we can take off and go where we want, outside of certain sectors and above specific altitudes, anyway.

If I'm landing at a metropolitan airport, I get put in a traffic pattern like all the other pilots well before I reach the city. You go where you're told.

There's a heliport near the scene of the accident that it was probably flying to/from. I don't live that far away from where this happened but surprisingly I've heard little about it other than on the news

A lot of pilots are quite competent under VFR conditions, but not quite so under IFR.

VFR = Visual Flight Rules, where you can see where you're going.

IFR = Instrument Flight Rules, where you can't.

If you rely on your senses under IFR conditions, you can find yourself in trouble. For instance, it may feel like you're gaining altitude when in fact you're just gaining speed, because both will put you back in your seat.

The story says it was foggy, so I'm guessing IFR.

Pilots are largely an ego-driven group of people, and 'flying by the seat of your pants' still unfortunately maintains quite a bit of macho appeal.

When I was standing at the barricades this morning, people were saying it's a terrorist attack, I simply stated in my post that I didn't think it was a terrorist attack. Short answer is nothing.

Same thing happened here in my State (Iowa)... For some reason I just didnt care. Its the old "not my problem" attitude. It is funny how being away from something makes it an abstraction.
