I like 2 better. It was more ridiculous, but I liked how it doesnt take itself totally seriously.

I like the first because its more intimate and serious. Its nice and dark, too.
I really enjoyed the second, though...almost as much as the first tbh. But it just seemed so typically-epic it kind of ruined it.
I liked both of them a lot.
I was kind of wondering where the white guy in the first one with no powers went in the second one, he kind of just disappeared.

2 is very different, much bigger scale and more over the top with it's creatures. I liked the humor though, and the weird romance.

Loved the 1st one, but the 2nd one went into the "campy" zone too much if that makes any sense...
Film-Guy
2 was much campier in a way, but I think that added to it. Made it stand out from the other superhero films that are deadly serious.
I hear what you're saying, it just didn't do much for me. It was still good, but I liked the 1st one better
I like the First one way better than the second one.
tbh, i was dissapointed at the second one. over the top and completely different mood from the first

I thought Selma Blair was a bit underused in the 2nd other than her romance with hellboy. I found her more interesting in the first. She was still good in 2 though.
I much prefer 2.
Mainly I think because it had a better villain (I don't even remember who the villain was in the first movie). That elf prince was freaking badass.
MrGeezer
All I remember about the first's villain was a giant tentacle, and nazi guy with two blades or something.

Funnily enough, as much as I like Hellboy 2, I think that Guillermo Del Toro was sort of copying the villain from Blade 2.
Now, I know that those were both his movies so it's technically okay for him to do that. Still, it was sort of annoying and kind of took me out of the movie just a little bit.
Anyway, I'm not exactly sure why I hated Hellboy so much, but liked Hellboy 2 so much. They're really similar. And yet, the first movie didn't work for me at all, while the second movie totally worked for me. They both had the same cheesy humor and romance. Yet somehow, I just plain liked that stuff in the second movie but hated it in the first.
The second one for me, I love them both, but the villain in the second put that one over the first for me.
