Does anyone know how to rip dvds and put them on an IPod?
If software is needed, are there any free ones?
Thanks!

There are plenty of programs that rip dvds. Free ones? Type in free dvd ripper in Google. That's all I can reccommend. After it is ripped, you can use the plethera of converters out there. The higher the quality of the video, the more space it will take up. Conversions take a while no matter what format you're converting from. Magic DVD converter isn't free, but it can rip movies into the iPod format so you could always consider paying. They may have a free trial, though it may be watermared (I hate those).

3gp is a pretty good converter that does almost all formats. It doesn't work with .wma files. You can use it for video files already on your harddrive.
If you want to convert only the outstanding part of the DVD, you can preview it with the built-in player and then set up a start time and end time. Then CXB DVD to MP4 Converter will convert only the customized part not the entire video. With CXB DVD To MP4 Converter's easy-to-use interface, You will have a great mood when you convert your DVD movie. There are a number of certain pay programs that claim to do it for free, but many are riddled with bugs and fail to take into account DVD encryption. However, by using it, you can easily convert a full DVD movie into an iPod-ready mp4 file. Read on for the full guide and links.
