Start smoking :Ddarkmoney52No, I'm never gonna smoke more than theoccasionalcigar. It killed 4 of my most loved relatives, and it's killing my uncle right now. I'm serious I want to quit.

That sucks man, I've heard that hypnothearapy can actually help a lot for quitting addictions. My mom feels naeseus if she even looks at cigerets now because she says it makes her think of cow crap after a few sessions with her hypnothearapist.
sucks for you dude. Alot of people in my class dip..they keep a water bottle filled with "ice tea" (its their spit from dipping)..its really really disgusting. Umm just force your self not to do it for 3 days, then after that your off the stuff. outbreak201last time i tried quitting, the withdrawl lasted 2 weeks before i cracked and had to do it. i'm thinking of slowly cutting back my doses, moving from a can a day, to a can every 3 days, then a can a week, then only one dip a day, then just stopping. does anyone know if this will work?

It depends entirely on you. It's not really fair for anyone to say it would work, but different methods vary in effectiveness from person to person. Some people don't have the self-control to slowly stop. Some people have to stop alltogether. And eventually, you WILL have to stop, and nothing is going to make that easy, so don't even think you can find an easy way out of breaking the addiction, because you're not going to find one.
haha sadly that won't work. this is Alabama, everyone does it, i've even seen a few girls do it. the girls have learned that every guy does it and they have to live with it.try to get laid
once you realize you cant get laid by someone attractive while "dipping", your willpower and confidence to quit will be through the ROOF!
no offense intended :)

I know some friends that tried that, within a couple weeks they were usually bumming cigeretts off of me. Everyone I've met that succeeded in quitting has said it was just a matter of willpower. Not the most satisfying answer I guess, but that's what I always here anyway.
what is dippingkruesaderdipping is little finely cut grains of tobacco that you put in your lip, and it's absorbed through your blood stream through the blood vessels in your lip and gums. It has as much nicotine as 4 cigarettes in one pinch of dip. At first it gives you a buzz, then after you do it for a few months you don't feel a buzz, but you do it anyway because you crave it.
thats so weird, I've never heard of the term dipping before seeing this thread, and have never SEEN anyone do it either, I see thousands of people every day at college downtown (chicago), never seen anyone spit out iced tea colored stuffJonnybiz
the spits not really ice tea colored, yeah it's brown but a darker, slimier brown than iced tea. if you see someone with a big lump in one cheek, then they're dipping, it's similar to chewing tobacco but it has more nicotine and it's fine cut. not long strands of tobacco

damn, thats grotty.
Hey I'm 18 and I have been dipping regularly since I was 14. I've tried quitting before, but people do it around me, or I go to a gas station and see it on the shelve and I just crave it. Does anyone know any good programs or routines to help me quit this bad habit? I go through a can a day, so it's gettin kind of expensive. I want to quit because the longer I do it, the harder it's gonna be for me to quit. Plus that whole mouth cancer thing. For those who don't know what it is, it's NOT chewing tobacco, it's little grains of tobacco, but you do it just like you'd do chew. It's Red Seal, Copenhagen, Skoal, those things. Please someone give me a good routine to help me quit. I've tried just stopping, but the withdrawl is AWFUL, I get in a pissy mood, and I'm very irritated, and I just crave it. Plus when I try to just stop I can't sleep without a good dip before I sleep.1stCommandoI have been having the same problem with smoking and other things which I won't mention. I have as much self control as a paper air plane when it comes to things like this, so I found the best solution for me is to stay away from people and things that tempt you. But it's so hard especially when you are in love with one of people who tempt you with stuff.
If you don't mind me asking TC, what made you start? That truly sucks that you are addicted, supposedly nicotine is even more addictive than heroin although I find that hard to believe. I'd talk to your doctor, see what your choices are, and seek support from those that have quit. My mom used to smoke, and she said that the craving never truly went away, just lessened a bit. Ugh. I feel for ya.
Well, you could always try to imagine your face without any lips or tongue with your gums and teeth all over the place when you're older. Maybe even your lower jaw removed, who knows? That's pretty heavy motivation right there. And get a new job. If you're around it constantly, there's no way in hell it's going to happen. I'd say stay away from ANY situation that has it around, and if it pops up, leave immediately.

Rekunta, I started because my friend's dad offered it to us, and we saw him do it all the time, so I tried it, and it gave me an amazing buzz, so I kept doing it for a buzz, until the buzz didn't happen anymore. So I put more in my mouth to get the buzz again, then that stopped giving me a buzz. By then I was hooked and I felt bad if i went too long without doing it.1stCommando
What an A-hole......real nice guy. Well, I hope you find something that will help you out, at least you're only 18 and you realize you want to stop now. Four years is nothing, the damage probably isn't too bad. Good luck man. :)
1stCommando, I am appalled that your dad's friend offered the dip to you, considering that it can be highly addictive (due to the chemical stimulant reacting within your body and causing the dependency). He might have meant well, but to me it seems like an irresponsible gesture.
I once asked a friend if he could offer me one of his cigarettes, so that I may "try it out". Of course, I had no intention of smoking at all, but I was just curious to hear what his response would be. He told me that he did not want to be that person that offers me my first smoke; rather, if I had smoked before, he would have gladly shared his cigarettes. I was impressed by his response. Yet at the same time, I pitied him knowing that he must be struggling with his addiction to cigarettes.
From college, I remember learning that any addiction is primarily caused by habituation, doing the same thing over and over. However, it is much different when your addiction directly influences your body's stimulus and chemical balance-- this could lead to your body being in a state of withdrawal. The magnitude of the problem is intensified. I probably should not go into further details, but I just wanted to point out the seriousness of your situation.
I have had my own share of combats with addiction, and I feel that I often prevailed. These are my suggestions for you to consider:
1) It starts with your willpower. If you are determined enough, then you will succeed. Do realize that it will be difficult and you will have to struggle a lot.
2) Take small steps. Like other members in this thread have already suggested, set small goals (such as quitting for 1 day, then 3 days, then 1 week, and so on.) Knowing that you have accomplished the smaller goals will bolster your confidence and reassure your commitment to ending your addiction.
3) When you get that "urge" to take a dip, STOP IMMEDIATELY whatever you're doing and acknowlege the craving that your body demands. Then remind yourself of all the negative consequences that could happen if you do reach for the dip. Tell yourself, "If I give in now, it will only get much more difficult later on."
4) Distract your mind with something else more pleasurable (that will also not cause a different addiction to ensue). Repeat this step every time you get the "urge" until you can break out of your habit.
5) If you can manage to break away from the habit, NEVER LOOK BACK. Do not ever have the thought of grasping for the dip ever again; in the end, it is not worth all the trouble that you have had to put up with.
Good luck to you. Be mentally strong! Mind over body. Be determined!!!
Try smoking Cannabis through a bong with no tobacco.
I'm actually deadly serious. Cannabis is much better than tobacco, and isn't addictive.

That's cool man. People need to realise that it's better to smoke Ganja without the Tobacco. It makes you forget about the Nicotine completely, and the Ganja isn't physically addictive. It's bloody nice though. :)
