Help with the name of a fantasy book series?

I don't know anything about what the book is about. But I do know it is meant to be one of the best and most influential fantasy book series about. Also there is alot of anger as the author is meant to be taking the mick writing new ones and people doubt he will finsh them;and the series has been going a really long time.

I know this is really vauge but if anybody knows what I am talking about it would be really apperciated.

This possibly? From what I hear it is a great series, but the final books are still up in the air.

Sounds vaguely like The Wheel of Time series. Author has been writing the series for a loooong time, dies then a new one takes over to write the final volume only to have that final volume turn into three complete volumes.
