I got home at 9 from my friends house, and went to bed. Someone who the cops told me was intoxicated, tore the screen off my window. He tapped on the glass and asked for my uncle(my uncle lives with us, but he stays in the garage. I thought he was my uncle so I opened the blinds and talked to him.

I figured he was a friend of my uncle and tried to tell him he was in the backyard. The crackhead began to bang on my window and he woke my mother(Me and her are the only ones who stay in the house). I made the stupid mistake of trying to be honest and tell the guy I did not no for sure where my uncle was, but that he did not stay in the house. I put on pants and we made sure the doors were locked while he tried to come to the front of the house(we repeatedly said we are calling the police).

We dialed 911 and a police officer came, but the crackhead had already kicked a hole into our door. The idiot came looking for my uncle high out of his mind most likely to assault him. Apparently the drug fiend had just been realised from prison on probation(I hope they keep him longer). He knew a girl that my uncle broke up with a month ago(she might have put him up to this. My mother was shaken up(I had to hold her when he was kicking the door down), so I spoke with the officer.

I told him what happened, they got some info, and they carted the guy off. My uncle was in the backyard and says he did not see or know the boy. He patched up the door, but I am still sort of angry. He should be more focused on moving out instead of bring idiots over. After someting like this your mind starts going to worst case scenarios. Also what if he gets out, he knows where we live.

You could always go for one of the house alarm services. And weapon to defend yourself with could put your mind at ease a little. Does your uncle have a job?

I have been thinking of alarms, when I am 18 i plan to take classes on how to handle a firearm, and he does but is not working at the moment.

Reinforcing your door should probably be a main point, ask the police for ideas on how to make your house safer though.

No, no, no. You don't take classes. You buy a gun on a whim, then when the time comes to use it, you fire wildly in the general direction of the assailant with reckless abandon and total disregard for human life.

You could also after putting in a stronger door, also install a storm door in front of it.

How about getting a guard dog, like a German Shepherd or a Rottweiler?

A baseball bat or other blunt object would have sufficed if he was unarmed. I would have opened the door and cracked his skull open, I mean, why let him kick a hole in a perfectly good door? I like my door.

If I was alone maybe, but I had to think of my mother. Also when he was by my window all I saw were his face and glasses, he might have had a gun.

Funny thing is my uncles dogs kept barking but he still did not come outside. I would not want to see someone from my family get hurt, but our house should not have gotten involved.

Or get a stronger Uncle. Wow, lots of gun talk. Hardly anyone is Aus has a gun at home. We tend to revert back to non lethal forms of violence for our control :) In answer to your dilema I'd personally go for the reassurance of some sort of weapon to help put your mind at ease but wouldn't recommend a gun. If he smashes in your door looking for your Uncle and you shoot him you're just gonna p#$% him off and a simple broken door could escalate into something much bigger quickly. Why didn't you just tell him your Uncle was out the back and send him there? Or just lie and say that your Uncle was at XXX. Then he'd go looking for him there.

I kept saying in the back but he would not listen, but even telling the truth was a bad idea becaus he just wanted trouble.

The "buying a shotgun and posting no trespassing signs so you can't get in trouble when you shoot them" thing is always an option.

I prefer the "we don't dial 911" with a pic of a gun sign.

This.

The area where we live is known for a lot of activity in the home invasion area. I'm going to get me a gun as soon as I get enough money saved up for one.

Where I live, if you have "no trespassing" signs posted and someone breaks in or even trespasses you have free reign to kill them if you have to and it won't reflect negatively on you. Not too long ago a kid tried to rob a WW2 veteran (I'm fairly certain it was WW2, he was pretty old and a veteran so...) in his house at gunpoint and the veteran killed him. The family of the armed thief tried to press charges but they couldn't stick. Serves that guy right for trying to rob someone anyway.

Get a stronger door, alarm, weapon for self defence. That's all I can think of.

And tell you're uncle to take some responsibility and not bring idiots over that can harm you and you're family.

That's disgusting. The family has to know that their relative brought his death on himself. When you break into someones property and try to steal from them, you do so with the full knowledge that you may be killed. If you don't have that knowledge, well what can I say? Send the family a Darwin award. We recently had a situation where a crazed woman came out of a house with a knife and a gun, threatened to kill the police officer who was there (the boyfriend of the woman called them because she threatened to kill him and tried to stab him), then took a shot at him. Only after she fired did he fire back, killing her. The family and surrounding community was outraged and charged racism. (the cop was white, the woman in question was black)

The family is still threatening to sue the city, even after hard evidence was shown that she did indeed have a gun, and did indeed fire at the police officer. Yet they insist it's all a big cover up. Some people are just too bloody stupid to listen to reason. Reality is too hard for them, and they go into such a deep denial, that they literally become lost in a fantasy world. They honestly believe the crap they are spouting. Just like I'm sure the people you are referring to believe that their own family member was a sweet and innocent person, and that he had a perfectly logical reason for breaking into an elderly person's house and pointing a gun at him.

Take responsibility my butt, he should be out on the curb right now. Would definitely be if he was my uncle, after that. Love your family, but don't tolerate an irresponsible family member who puts you in direct physical danger. Put him out.

Yes, but the scary thing is he did not come to steal anything(he would not have bothered to wake me up then). He most likely would have torn through the house trying to find my uncle. This could have ended in assualt, I would rather he stole something then hurt someone no offense.

I agree with what you say but, I don't know for sure if I could have taken him. I am tough and could have used my bat, but I think he was drunk and high. I don't think he would have been able to kick through our door if he was sober(he probably would not have even popped up). The cop did not even search him and he could tell he was intoxicated.

yep , get a gun of some kind, shotguns are probably the best home defense because everyone understands the universal language of "cachuk", or watch home alone and do what that kid did.

A lot of you are saying buy a gun, good idea but I am only 17 years old. You have to be 18 in my state to own a shotgun(in home and car) and 21 in order to have a pistol.

Mercenary848

I assume your mom is over 21. Talk her in to buying the gun. No law says you have to be 18 to use your mom's gun to defend your home.

Yes she used to be in the military and fired automatic rifles, maybe she should get one.
