[QUOTE="Nuck81"]There is a Vaccine for Polio. It has essentially been Eliminated, As in there are cases of Polio, particularly in 3rd world Countries, but it is no longer and Epidemic. Kind of like the Bubonic Plague. Can you name a Major Disease like Polio that has been virtually eliminated in the last 30 years?Slow_Show
None on that scale, but that's because it's really hard to outright eliminate a disease the same way as polio (or perhaps more accurately, small pox): some diseases simply can't be eliminated because they mutate too quickly or have a non-human reservoir, and beyond that the extraordinary effort required to eliminate a disease limits feasibility only to debilitating and widespread diseases (i.e. no one is going to spend billions upon billions of dollars trying to wipe out mumps, even though we've had the MMR vaccine for decades).
So the more important question is what diseases do those in the developed world have to worry about these days (because it's not like Big Pharma is making a killing off of destitute Indian farm workers), and the answer is not much. We have comprehensive vaccination schedules that most people are smart enough to follow and high health and safety standards, to the point where the only diseases one genuinely has to worry about are those that simply don't have easy solutions (i.e. cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, etc). If there's some sinister Big Pharma plot to keep us all sick enough to be constant revenue sources for our entire 80-odd year lifespan, they're doing a very sh*tty job of it.
You need to do more research. You don't have a very good grasp of medicine, Medicinal Research, the History of the Advancement of Medicine, how it has stalled in the last four decades, and how research into treatments of symptoms has risen. You should also take a look at the Ties between Insurance and the Medical Field. As it stands the life expectancy of Human's has fallen, not risen. The Ancient Romans who used lead for their pipes. Drilled holes in their heads for headaches, and used arsenic as makeup had a longer life expectancy than we do now.
