From the article:

"Westwood High track coach Tom Davis was fired last week because one of his runners decided to take his shirt off during training on a 75-degree day. This wasn't a girl, by the way. It was a boy.

That wasn't the end of it. Davis was let go on the spot, in front of his team, and eventually escorted off school property.

But there was an undercurrent of tension at the school as Fogel told Davis that some members of the girls team felt uncomfortable when the boys ran without shirts."

What the hell?

Stupid. When I was in high school almost every teams boys would run shirtless me included. Then again an average summer day here is 100 degrees and up so they're probably more understanding. 75 degree weather, just keep your shirt on.

As long as they aren't ugly, I don't see the issue with a bunch of shirtless guys.

If this gets someone fired then why haven't I heard a story about a player getting expelled or a coach getting fired for slapping a teammate/player on the ass cos someone was uncomfortable?

It's absolute bullcrap what our society is turning into. Everybody is overly sensative about every little tiny thing and it costs people their jobs and brings up tons of pointless law suits.

We live in a society where you have the right to never be offended and it's wrong.

because most people don't get offended at such petty bullcrap, but there's SOME people in the world that have to turn everything into something it's not.

Yeah, even I have to wear a shirt in gym class. If I want to take my shirt off during a hardcore game of Frisbee football on a 90 degree day, who the hell are they to tell me I can't?

I usually look for factors that other people are not taking into consideration since OT has emotional knee-jerk reactions about everything, but I honestly can't see any justification for firing this guy, especially in front of his team.

Well most people don't really care about such trival matters.

Since this was a school incident all I can think of is the "but think of the children" bullcrap mentality that we need to shelter and censor anything about the human body, which makes kids unsecure about seeing a little more extra skin.

Only way I can possibly think that it was uncomfortable for the girls, is if they all created and sat in a large puddle after that shirt was removed. Dumbest thing I've heard all day.

Thank God I don't live there. We used to run without our shirts in P.E all the time, just running through city streets. No one was ever offended. What a bunch of babies, can't deal with the human body.

There's nothing wrong with being offended. But it shouldn't cost somebody their job.

Edit: This guy was fired ON SPOT. That is ridiculous. No one should have to be exposed to that level of embarrassment for any job. In front of his class too. They didn't even have the courtesy to tell him afterwards. There has to be more to this story, maybe the coach pissed off the brass prior to this.

This is the kind of stuff that happens when liberalism is allowed to run rampant in our society.

I knew somebody was going to chime in with one of these silly "I have to insert my political biases into everything" responses.

Tbh...I don't see anything offensive about this. Judging by the track team at our school, I think I'd be disappointed without shirtless running.

The students should be mercilessly reprimanded if a "no shirtless" policy was made clear in the student handbook or as a condition of understanding before joining the track team. If you're on school grounds, then you gotta play by school rules.
