Poll Hillary is running. Can she win? (85 votes)

Yes 62%
No 38%

And a collective 'no shit' goes up in chorus as she announces her candidacy.

Can she win the second time around?

IMO, if the Republicans have already put up their best for this election she's got it.

Obama won.

Twice.

With the middle name "Hussein".

And she's running against the modern day Republicans.

What difference does it make which corporate stooge wins?

All you're electing is a spokesperson for the unelected oligarchs who wield the real power.

Ronald McDonald could do the job as well as Ronald Reagan did.

She has a good chance this time. The last time she ran and lost the Democratic nomination it was pretty much voters choosing between the first black president (although technically he is mixed) and the first female president. This time she's probably going to go against a lot of white male candidates and people that want something different will probably choose her.

On the other hand, she has Benghazi and her lack of security concerns using non-government e-mail servers for official business going against her. But I don't see any of the upcoming Republican candidates being a serious challenge. If Rand Paul gets the Republican nomination he will probably get a lot of votes from people upset with the NSA if he can convince them he will neuter their authority but that doesn't mean Hillary won't counter by offering to do something similar.

Well given the generally awful candidates the Republicans are putting up, I'd say she's got some things going for her.

I'm personally a Democrat and prefer her over the rich green grass Republicans up for election. Where did the good Republicans disappear to (Ex. Lincoln!)

Hilary is going to win the democratic nomination easily. That doesn't mean she's not going to have opponents during the primaries tho. She lost out to Obama 7 years ago because she wasn't black, but now there are no other women to really oppose her with the name recognition.

Does this mean Hilary is the best choice for the Dems? Hell no, arguably she's the worst choice. She has more skeletons in the closet than missing emails, those skeletons that have built up since the early 90's is going to turn a lot of people away from her.

As in life, all things are relative. If it's Clinton-Bush, I could see no elections because of mass riots of people fed up with the family dynasties running the nation. If it's against a Christie, Paul, or Rubio, she's winning. Those are low level candidate's that don't have a strong backing among the conservative base.

If it's Clinton-Cruz, she's gonna have a very tough time winning that election. What that will come down to is whatever the current events are in late 2016 swaying people's votes.

If it's Clinton against Scott Walker, I don't think she can win. Walker is more mainstream than Clinton and has much less negative press. Walker has been demonized and conspired against by the dems in Wisconsin and survived it, he'll survive the 2016 sh*tstorm. He's the toughest candidate the Republicans can field.

Will the 'pubs choose him? IMO, nope. Them neocon's love the taste of Bush in their mouths.

While race was a factor Barack Obama beat Hillary Clinton because he was a young, charismatic candidate short on paper trail on which served as a Rorschach cloth on which every saw what they wanted.

Obama beat Hillary Clinton because he was better organized, and is better politician, retail or otherwise,

Obama beat Hillary Clinton because he energized the base with a challenge from the left.

Obama beat Hillary Clinton because she voted for the Iraq war and he didn't.

Obama beat Hillary Clinton because he "represented the aspirations" of the future and not the past.

Obama won because it is the economy, stupid.

Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

And that is that.

I think she can win, but I don't think even as a Democrat I care for her. Would rather see someone like Elizabeth Warren run (unlikely though), or Bernie Sanders, hell I'd take Dennis Kucinich before Hillary... sadly though even if any of them were the front-runner they wouldn't stand as good a chance as Hillary would.

As far as the Republicans go, I imagine their likely candidates will be cycled like the flavor of the week. Someone is touted as the new GOP reigning champ to take 2016, a week goes by, the candidates public comments are scrutinized when they pander to the base and they're out, new person steps up and same thing... it's a game of musical chairs were the last one not to be publicly disgraced before the primary is the GOP candidate.

Yes she'll most likely win. As the GOP's trend of alienating the multitude of American electorate continued throughout the past two democrat presidencies, I don't see how the tide can change in their favor this time around. If anything, the GOP has reinforced its fringe status in the American polity after the impassioned and the high profile same-sex marriage battle and the deluge of perverse, bizarro legal and social brouhahas that ensued. From the looks of it, the GOP is reaching to its profuse arsenal of hillbilly conservative exhibitionists who usually manage to scandalize the world and the American polity equally. So assuming that the party's nomination settles on Clinton, yes she'll win.

Personally I earnestly want a republican president; it'd be extremely interesting to see what America would handle the current Middle East under a republican presidency; so much has changed since the last republican president. Most importantly however, it'd be a surreal experience to see how such an administration will handle the Israeli-Palestinian conflict after Netenyahu's latest win and the dementia that ensued, in Israel and the U.S alike.

I forget just how polarizing that Iraq war was.

But you're right that Obama was a lot better organized being that his roots were in community organizing.

I see her winning easily. Pretty much 80% of the democratic vote is behind her. What are republicans gonna throw at her? Benghazi? Most Americans are completely unaware of that scandal.

The committee to investigate the Benghazi attack (ran by mostly Republicans) said the administration did nothing wrong. Benghazi will be a non-issue since the only people who will bring that up are people who wouldn't have voted for her anyway, IMO. Why do you think it'll be significant in the campaign?

I just wanted to post in this thread to hide the fact that I understand absolute zero about politics. Wasn't trying to start a back and forth with you...those are way too much fun and always end badly =P

Since this thread so far has been serious discussion I'm going to leave it to the smart people.

Of course she can win, and she probably will.

The likes of Rand Paul and Ted Cruz especially have no chance against her, so the other Republicans would have to step it up.

The only person that has a chance to beat hilary is jeb bush if he gets past the primaries which will happen. Jeb bush will probably do slightly better than romney in the US general election. Hilary can pull a big victory if Jeb messes up like romney.

The Republican party are their own worse enemies.. No matter how good and level headed candidate Jeb may actually be, it won't matter because he is going to have to go full on crazy to win the Republican primary.. This crazy will be used like a club by political opponents in which they will bash him in the head repeatedly when he is trying to look moderate in the general election.. Republicans are starting to get fearful of the entire situation, notice they are now bringing up wage inequality as a criticism towards President Obama? It was only a few years ago when the very same party was calling such things "class warfare" and "socialism".. Now they are losing control with the whole Iranian situation, in which President Obama may have completely defused the entire situation without firing a single shot, meanwhile we have people like Bachman pretty much fearmongering with dooms day like tweets..

It's uphill for Jeb (or just about anyone) if he wins the nomination. Take a look at 2012's election map:

It's stacked incredibly in Hillary's favour. Which of the states that Obama won do you think can go red? Only plausible ones are Florida, Ohio and MAYBE Virginia and Colorado... so the GOP candidate would need to win all four of those to squeak by with 275 electoral vote. I just don't see it, IMO. Hillary also has a big fanbase in the Mid-West where she can make some gains.

Basically this.

In order to win the primary Republicans have to pander to the extreme Right Wing, Religious Right, and Tea Party. This hurts them among Moderate Republicans and eliminates any Democratic Moderate Crossover.

A Republican Candidate can't win a General National Election without the full support of Moderate Republicans and a lot of Moderate Democrat Crossover.

It's a no win, and it's of their own making

Depending on candidates... Walker can win OH, VA, FL, NV, and possibly NH and WI.

Cruz will win FL and can win the others listed above except NH and WI.

Bush wins FL and has an impossible task of winning more states. Easily the worst choice the stumblebum's can run is Bush.

Hilary though isn't a lock. Yeah, there's Benghazi and missing emails, but her biggest problem is Bubba and his sexcapades. The moral argument against Hilary is how she can live with a pig for a husband when after 2001 she could have divorced him and cleaned her hands of his shit?

Just curious but why do you think Cruz of all people could beat Hillary? His appeal is to a very narrow group of people and it's independents and moderate voters that ultimately decide elections. Walker I also think is a long shot too - too conservative for the average voter, his economic record in Wisconsin is pretty bad in a general election, and the guy has like 0 charisma lol. At least Cruz is a firebrand and can somewhat handle himself in a debate. Walker is just a big question mark to me.

As for your comment about Bill - he's still very popular. People look fondly to the Clinton years and if she plays her cards right Bill can really help her campaign out, I think.

I think people are overlooking Scott Walker. His is a governor, which is where some would prefer the GOP nominee would come after electing a rookie in 08'. He comes from supposedly union bedrock Wisconsin. And all he does is win.

He has made some missteps out of the gate (he hasn't even announced yet) but luckily for him he has done then when no one was looking. He might lack charisma but that cancels out with wooden Hillary.
