It all about the money now. How often your favorite movie that was Rated R turn into profit making PG-13? For example, the Die Hard series..all three movies was Rated R..and the fourth one was PG-13.

"The reason? R is increasingly becoming Hollywood's scarlet letter, the rating no would-be blockbuster wants. It scares parents and cuts out the whole swatch of under 18 movie goers. If it means higher profits, studios have no qualms about lobbying the Motion Picture Association of American (MPAA) for lower rating. And often, the MPAA has no problem granting their wishes.

The movie that suppose to be Rated-R...they try to push and bring it down to PG 13 rating. For example, despite graphic scenes of violence, "The Dark Knight," the latest, darkest installment of Batman franchise, only got a PG-13 rating, which resulted in over $400 million gross sales and still growing... this is a good thing though.

What do you think of this?

No it's that ratings are getting worse, PG-13 today is like R ratings several years ago, and R-rated movies are just REALLY bad now. So it takes alot to make an R-rated movie. People are getting more and more acustomed to seeing horrific stuff in movies it becomes more natural so the ratings don't have to be as high. Well thats what I think.

You and your big words! (Aww... you just had to go and edit it!)

I personally think that in a capitalist society, anything that will rack in the dough is what people will be doing.

I disagree. Plenty of R rated movies make a good amount of money.

I still think they're too...censored.

I prefer my movies R, the differences are big, and I find that there is a lot more originality in R movies. I'm 16 and go to more R movies than PG-13 movies, whether that means having an 18+ year old (parents) buy the tickets which is allowed, or just buying tickets to another movie and walking into the R theater.

There are more R rated movies than in the past.... for no good reason. We all get sick of over-using curse words in movies, and the gore-factor doesn't make or break a movie. A good movie will do good regardless of what letter presents it. (R PG PG13)... but hollywood knows that parents won't be afraid to take their fairly young kids to a pg 13 harry potter or batman movie...however if it was R... that would be a different story.
