It was 30 years ago and didn't he already do some time for it? biggest_loserNo, they didn't proscute. But seriously I maen what should I just be able to go rape a 13-year-old, flee the country, wait 30 years, and get away with it?
No, they didn't proscute. But seriously I maen what should I just be able to go rape a 13-year-old, flee the country, wait 30 years, and get away with it? I take it you think that the statute of limitations should be repealed?[QUOTE="biggest_loser"]It was 30 years ago and didn't he already do some time for it? Boston_Boyy
Yeah the statute for rape is like what 5 years? I think this man should burn in hell but there might not be much they can do. Although I am not sure why those people would support him.GrandJury
The statute is just a window during which he must be tried. He was already tried and he ran before sentencing. Essentially like breaking out of jail; they can find him and put him back in anytime (no time limit).

Oh he was already tried? That changes some things.Link
Roman Polanski instructed her to get into a jacuzzi naked, refused to take her home when she begged to go, began kissing her even though she said no and asked him to stop; performed cunnilingus on her as she said no and asked him to stop
yeah, he raped her and anyone who defends him should **** die.

She got over it!!

So, that makes it okay? He raped a 13 year girl. I don't care if she got over with it. He shouldn't get away with that.[QUOTE="biggest_loser"]

Regardless of her involvement, the moment he left the US, he was considered a fugitive. It can't be too pointless if the LA Prosecutors Office is willing to try to have him extradited back here.[QUOTE="hedden93"]

She also got paid. I'm not sure I like the idea that you can get away with it if you can leave the country pay the girl for raping her.Link

Sounds like rape to me. Whether you got over it or not he still should get in some sort of trouble. He broke the law, he rape a 13 year old girl, he ran away, i don't care if 30 years have passed or if celebs are signing a dumb petition, he should pay for his crimes.
It was 30 years ago and didn't he already do some time for it? biggest_loser
It doesn't matter if it was 100 years ago; if you commit a crime and evade police for thirty years then you will go to jail after being caught. He obviously didn't serve enough time.
I can't believe anyone would defend him, that's just terrible. Ceneb
All because he made some decent movies decades ago.
It's good to know that if you're a celebrity, people will support anything you do, but if you're just a common person then people all over the world will defend your being shot to death.

he's in there for life i believe it is just recently that there are talks of letting him go
and of course the celebrity's just want to get some attention

It doesn't matter if it was 30 years ago or if he was cryogenically frozen and then thawed out of his cube in a future life once the technology became available!!
He must pay for his sins!! Hang the Kaiser!! And you sir should be ashamed of yourself heathen!!
first of all, even though he is a rapist, this dude probably has better reasons than anyone.
1) His pregnant wife was stabbed to death along with his unborn child think that would eff anybody up in the head
2) He paid reparations to the girl and even she got over it like 30 years ago plus there is evidence that the mom planned for the rape to happen to sue
3) 13 isn't exactly a small child. In some countries girls get married at the age of 13. If you see some girls out there they are actually 14 but have huge t1t5 You can barely tell some girls' age w/o being told.
4)Everyday thousands of girls are raped but this girl probably got filthy rich and is living the high life for being raped by a celebrity. Why should she complain, she should be thanking the dude. Hell if I were her, I would.
Jail is supposed to punish people...at least in some states.Again we see the old idea that jail is suppose to punish people... no wonder the justice system isn't working.
Basically he hasn't commited a crime in 30 years, and his victim has forgiven him. I don't really see a problem here.

Here's a quote from the US Dept. Of Justice's website here.
"We apprehend, try, and punish offenders by means of a loose confederation of agencies at all levels of government."

I'd sugest reading Jeremy Bentham's The Rationale of Punishment. Bantham is pretty much invented the idea of a prison system.

I will see if I can make my way to reading it some day. You can't deny that the US government, and most departments of the US gov, are completely different now than when they originally started. I agree with you that that's not how it should be, but unfortunately that's how it is.Please Log In to post.
