Just seen the movie(the re-mastered version), and I can really see why people say its one of the best war movies.Such amazing detail, set pieces, and cinematography, I can't think of any other movie that has drew me in this much.Probably #1 on my top movies list, go see it now.

So's your face. :x Seriously though, it's my favourite war movie and somewhere in my top ten movies list. It really is awesome.

I can appreciate the film, but similar to The Deer Hunter it took me about four sittings to complete it due to how bored it made me.

It stars some of the greatest names ever to hit the screen and it has some of the greatest music ever released. And it's also full of action.

Seems any movie that a large number of people enjoy and that is also critically-acclaimed attract the "overrated" label just so said labeler can go against the crowd. Unless they can actually point out what about the film is overrated and xplain it in a critical fashion it's just noise. It's a great war movie but not the greatest. I'd put The Longest Day just ahead of it.

You're crazy... it's not incredibly fast-paced but at least it keeps your attention... whereas The Deer Hunter caught me daydreaming countless times.

It's a very interesting approach to a movie, but I think one of the more important things to realize about it is its lack of relation to both the Vietnam war (its story existed in Heart of Darkness long before the conflict began) and its act of attacking reason. It is an explication on, at the very least, the degeneration of logic.

In its defense I liked the original version of Apocalypse Now more than the Redux, which is unnecessarily long. None of the new scenes add much.

The Deer Hunter was waaaay better.

I mainly don't like Apocalypse Now because I do not like Marlon Brando. Other than his parts it's a great movie.

I think my dream was better than The Deer Hunter... probably why I kept going back to it.

Apocalypse Now is wicked. I recommend the original for first viewing, and then watch the Redux if you enjoyed it. It's an excellent movie - but sadly goes over many people's head. Anyone who thinks its boring really hasn't seen a boring movie.

I don't see how a movie like that can go over anyone's head though--it's not supposed to be defining or referring to any specific concept or anything. It's not that high-brow, really.

It has many specific meanings and themes in it. There's many people who've seen the movie and literally thinks it's about the Vietnam War. The movie was shown in my class room and most kids didn't even really get what it was about.

It was a relatively faithful reconstution of Heart of Darkness, set in Vietnam. It has blunt entertainment as well as a much deeper meaning behind many of the scenes. It is one of my favorite movies.

Cause of its popularity. We all know that if a lot of people like it, it automatically means its overrated

Word.

I really hate the mis-use of "overrated" around here.

I agree. The first time I saw it with a few friends I was blown away at the depth of the film which apparently only I picked up on out of my friends. Too many people pass it off as just a extremely high budget war flick.

Made by the same director who made the Godfather.. Definitely a great movie but not your typical war movie.. Its more of a bazaar war drama if anything.

I honestly can't see why people think this is a good film?? it's too long and i am not someone that can't watch a long film i've seen a fair few but at points i was lost.. it bored the hell out of me... and some scenes just didn't seem too have any relation to anything about what the film was about. So i agree it's way over rated.

Lucky you, we had to sit through the overblown war cliché known as We Were Soldiers:x. Interesting thing is that during our Vientman Veteran assembly, the vets recommended We Were Soldiers over any other Vietnam movie.
