I attended college through financial aide for the first few days of a semester. I then had to stop attending because my feet went REALLY bad to the point where I couldnt walk much. I removed myself through records from the college the correct way, DAYS AND DAYS before the first deadline. THE FIRST DEADLINE day which is -a few $'s and you will owe a little. Everything seemed fine, I leave and go on to have 2 whole reconstructive opps on my feet over the course of a year and a half

SUDDENLY, I get a bill in the mail from the college saying I owe 400 bucks for leaving AFTER the LAST deadline date, meaning I owe like 25% of it all, and I was on financial aide to begin with so i couldnt pay it then nor now >.> anyway, I fight them for it and give them the medical reasons for my leaving and proof on MY receite that I left well before the deadline to owe anything. They basically say "Too bad, our records show you left weeks after. Yet none of the professors have me on record lol to begin with." It was a clerical error obviously.

Today I owe 850 bucks, and have gone on to have 3 more opperations back to back since, being totally out of work and persuing SSI. They still hound me and the bill gets bigger and bigger with no way to pay it.

How can i stop this. I went to the school board and saw a panel about this, they denied me even though I had no income and no way to pay it, with medical reasons for me having stopped. I was in a cast that day lol. ( this was almost a year and a half ago) Now today they call and I owe a few hundred more than the last time. It will continue to grow and grow with no way to pay haha, wut ez a boy to do?

I think this is one situation where this is completely justified. You shouldn't have to pay a huge bill for their mistake.

it sounds like you should get some representation... if anything you might be able to settle for much less than you currently owe..

You should have proof of when you removed yourself from the courses. Use that. If not....you have a problem.

I don't quite understand how they can ignore a dated, signed receipt of withdrawal from the school. Are you sure that is what you have...or did you just drop courses?

Yeah especially if you can prove in writting that you left before the deadline then its them just trying to bully students for money...take them to court to have the charges dropped.

I think that even if the charges are dropped, he may still have an issue. The school usually won't be able to remove the debt collection agency's fees, so he may still be stuck with those. Unless he is able to win $$ in small claims court to cover them.

they ignore my receite THAT THEY HAD ON THIER OWN FILES!!!! because it conflicts with the paperwork for it all. For some reason the dates were messed up. Perhaps a 3/5/05 date turned into a 8/5/05 on their paperwork

they have absolutely no merit in this. I was on complete financial aide, and showed them i had to stop schooling for medical reasons and have not been employed since. What kind of person would leave weeks into it, be forced to pay the fee when they are on financial aide and cant afford to pay for classes, and have on record that they had 0 income and continue to have it....and they kept amping up the fees every few months lol

my mom has to pay it off, I am for sure taking them to court later on. There isnt anything i can do now but do one of a few things

1. get someone else to pay

2. beg them to wave the fee

3. declare that im bankrupt and hope they are linient with me and wave the fee

4. get a lawyer and take them to small claims court, which wont work because the state took this over months ago. The college has 0 say in the matter, its totally in the hands of the state. I have 0 chance of winning a case.

how do you pay for something if you have no income and cant work, and you have 0 chance of winning a court case?

I'm pretty sure everyone who graduates college after 4 or 5 years will have some sort of debt.

Call them a few time and if that doesn't work, you're gonna have to call a lawyer

p.s. If all else fails, call Oprah. If you're lucky and you go on her show, you'll even get a full ride scholarship and a new car!

Don't give them a dime. My girlfriend has been hounded for months about a bill she reportedly owes the school even though they have sent her money on several occasions for "overpayment" and hours she worked for them while she was a student. They haven't even sent it to collections or anything. So just fight it. Don't give them your hard earned money while you wait to figure it out in courts. If they can't figure out a simple date how are you expected to trust them with money that isn't theirs?

This is what I was going to say. But if you have proof and it doesn't match their data, you will still have to go through some meetings with them

Pay what you actually owe and not a cent more. They'll keep putting interest on the payments you supposedly owe, and may hire a debt collection agency to make empty threats, and call you frequently, but they can't make you do anything. Just make sure you've made the situation clear to them. Eventually they'll either drop it or sue, at which point you easily win by showing documentation. To reiterate, make sure they understand they made an error, and you have official documentation, and they can't do ****.

This happened to my brother twice. Once Rogers Cable charged him for something he didn't owe. He called and said he wasn't paying it, they ignored him. For the next couple statements he only payed what he actually owed, ignoring the faulty charge and its growing interest. They called him demanding there money, he told them again he wasn't paying for there mistake, they dropped it.

The other time he got sent magazines in the mail, told he had a subscription and owes them money for them. They kept sending magazines and demanding legal action if he didn't pay. Naturally he just laughed at the situation, and enjoyed his free magazines. Eventually they gave up, and stopped giving him free magazines. It may have been a legit company that made an error. It could also have been a scam company that buys magazines, sends them to people, then demands inflated payments. It doesn't really matter. Unless someone has some kind of leverage against you they can't do anything.

Now that I can do ^

Originally I owed like 350ish, i cant remember that amount, i havent seen any paperwork for some time. If i decide to pay ( my mom ) they are only getting the original amount. They stacked fees onto a bill from someone who was not employed and had valid medical excuses, saw their board/panel ect ect. They wont get a cent over 350 >.> should i decide to pay
