This topic is locked from further discussion.
what horror movies do you like mate
This is about horror movies you would like remade, but to answer your question;
The thing
Aliens1/2
Sinister
The Woman in Black(1989)
Paranormal activity(the lot of them) don't hate me.
Blair witch
Insidious 1/2
Conjuring
I wouldn't like to see any of these remade, i know there is a remake of Woman in Black, i havent seen it yet though.
Theres more less main stream horrors i like but i can't think of them right now :)

Thanks mate a good list of movies.
Only films that should be remade are bad ones with a good premise/idea.
Can't think of any right now...

What about good movies where the special effects have aged a lot?
Don't know, I really don't care much for horror movie since.....they scare me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Every I time I watch a horror film and it starts to get scary I ask myself: "again, why exactly are we watching this? Oh right, you are a masochist.".

Hah, same. I've only ever liked one horror movie, and that was The Conjuring from 2013, because of how well I thought it was made; I couldn't help but appreciate it. The Shining gave me a childhood trauma when I watched it at the age of 9...
Would you consider Coraline horror? That movie also rocks :P
Generally, I quite enjoy seeing different takes on Frankenstein. Enjoyed The 1994 movie Mary Shelley's Frankenstein , The Hammer Horror "Curse Of Frankenstein" was probably the best from what i'v experienced.
Event Horizon ... cuz the idea was good but it sucked. Doesn't make sense to me to remake movies that were good. If they were done right the first time leave em alone. Remakes of good films almost always blow anyway.
Speaking of horror films it's a shame how few good ones there are. There are many good horror novels and short stories though. The genre just seems to work better on the page than it does the screen.
@Wickerman777: yeh your prob right there, a descent horror comes out once in a blue moon. I think horror movies especially supernatural ones are hard to pull off, you have to get the atmosphere right you have to get the music right etc, if one thing is off it ruins the whole movie.
Where as a good horror novel, inputs all those things into your mind and your mind does a great job of visualizing the descriptions and creates the world of the novel in your head, makes for a more personal experience with the story.
I like horrors to be genuinely scary but not full of jump out scares, blair witch is one of my most favourite horrors, it has a creepy ass story that isnt over the top, the creepy ass setting i.e. the woods, evryone can relate to driving down a dark road with woods either side and your thinking to yourself,"boy i would not wanna be in those woods right now." I also thought the acting was flawless the way it was filmed really gave the whole film a sesnse of realism, plus the creepy shit that happened in the film. It just all came together to make a great horror movie.
@ariabed: Holy Hell, why would you like remakes of first two Alien films? Both films are perfect in every. possible. way.
Can you possibly see them nailing that atmosphere, acting & everything else which made them some of the best things to come out of cinema? You need to learn respect the classics, man. Look how the new Robocop turned out.
Remaking a game is completely different then remaking a film.
Horror genre is already oversatruated with remakes. 1/4 of all remakes are horror movies and most suck. Since 2000, only 11 of all remakes received critical ratings higher than originals. Last thing hollywood need is more horror remake. Make some original crap.
I want to see an Unknown Soldier movie, more specifically the 1997 Garth Ennis mini series adaptation.
@brimmul777:
Tough call on The Exorcist, which is a great movie in its own right. Obviously, the effects can be leagues better, but whether or not they can top it otherwise is dicey. Probably best not to try to remake, I still consider the original as the best horror movie ever made.
A remake of classic monsters like Frankenstein, or Jekyll and Hyde might be good.
I don't think they should remake any movies that were good the first time around. There are plenty of old movies that were crap like "The Beast Must Die" or "The Devil's Rain." I would like to see Guillermo del Toro finally get to make "In the Mountains of Madness" instead of any remakes however.

It's such a tease. Make it already!
@VanDammFan: Because most studio execs would rather go with a familiar brand or franchise that most pepole recognize than take a risk with an original property. People will complain about remakes, but enough of them will still shell out a few bucks to see them--if only to piss and moan about how bad they are.
Way too early for remakes for lots of those.
I didn't think The Conjuring was all that, however I like the setup of those paranormal investigators that had all those haunted artifacts, so many, each one with its own story, they could make a series of these films, like a movie series of the X-Files minus aliens.
Neill Blomkamp I hear is redirecting the Alien storyline after Aliens basically negating everything after the second film. If he were a director of better rapport I'd totally be okay with it, except he's 1/3 in my eyes, District 9 was cool but he's been a one hit wonder ever since with Elysium and Chappie both sucking donkey dick.
Anyhow, this is a good question, what horror films should be remade, I'll need to give this some thought, I'll be back.
Event Horizon ... cuz the idea was good but it sucked.
what's funny is I actually thought that movie was kind of cool when it first came out, but as time has passed, watching it now (or trying to anyways), I can see it was pretty bad and/or hasn't aged well
I totally support this one being remade, good call
@alex839: no problem bro.

The conjuring is loosely based on actual events that took place, those investigators in the conjuring are also based on the real life paaranormal investigators(the Warrens) that dealt with the hauntings at the house, that room of artifacts actually exist in their home.
The film Annabelle is based on the doll from the Warrens room of artifacts(just incase you didnt know) I'm yet to see this movie.
:)
Also that list of films i posted was in response to someone asking me what horrors i like, not ones i wanted remade.
Couldn't agree more with that. I thought District 9 was quite good but Elysium was so bad I couldn't finish it. Oh great, I thought while suffering through it, yet another "white people are evil but only a white person is capable of saving non-white people from white people" movie. <facepalm> Oh, and made by a very white person, of course. :) Funny thing is it's meant to be an anti-racist theme but when ya think about it for 2 seconds or more nothing could be more racist than what films like this are saying. But even though the premise was juvenile and tired and lame I could have liked it if the execution had been there (After all, District 9 kinda says the same thing), but it wasn't. Chappie I haven't seen cuz the trailers look silly.
