I'm planning on having a sort of movie night at my house this thursday, so can anyone recommend me any good horror movies? I don't really watch many so I have no idea any in particular. I loved 1408 and I'm not looking for gory movies like saw or hostel, just plain horror.

I would say Dawn Of the Dead (the new one) and Silent Hill

Those are two wicked horror films, I hope you and your friends like them.

Army of Darkness is... interesting. Jaws isn't very gory, but it's a pretty decent horror movie.

It depends on the type of movie you're looking for.

The Hellraiser movies are pretty good, the style is a bit sci-fi, lots of blood and gore. I'd recommended the first and second one, maybe even the third, but do leave the 4th, and so on, on the shelf.

Extreme blood and gore, with a touch of comedy: get Braindead. It's the only movie ever that made me gag (pudding, nuff said!). But it's a great movie!

The Ring, this one is not about blood and gore, this one is all aboutsuspense and atmosphere, and it's f ing creepy.

The classics ofcourse, Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elmstreet, The Excorcist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre etc. Not the scariest movies ever (I personally thought the TCM was boring as hell), but somehow they have this little extra something just for being a classic.

Scream, this isa good modern slashermovie, if you haven't seen it you should.

The Shining, also a classic, one of the best movies ever! Creepy and suspenseful, not a gory movie though.

Sleepy Hollow, although it involves some decapitating, this is not a gory movie either. I'd put this one is the category "pretty horror", the scenery, details, costumes everything is beautiful and the atmosphere is perfectly dark and gloomy. Maybe not the best choice to watch with friends, but this would be a good one to watch on a date ;)

Session 9.GettingTired

I love that movie:D One of the best horror movies I have ever seen. Forget crap like saw and hostel. Session 9 is real horror. Its like a ghost story, but you never see any real ghosts. To this day the ending of the movie still creeps me out.

Event Horizon is pretty good, also Jacob's Ladder. 28 Days Later as everyone else has said, and if you can find them Ju-on 1 and 2, don't go for the crappy american remakes of the Grudge though.
