How are southeast asians treated in west??

I'm an indian guy just wondering how are southeast asians treated in the west and particularly in California.

Fell free to share your expirience and opinion.

Like any other person. There are so many different types of people in "the west" that it doesn't really matter, as long as people can understand your accent. I know I sometimes find Indian accents hard to understand.

CA easily has the largest number of people from India in the US.

We are treated as people. I have proof because im south east asian. Though I will tell you of something is really annoyed the crap out of me. My parents own a donut shop and I always go in there to get coffee before school, and Old folks and some Vietnam vets always go there in the morning . Everytime I go, they ive me a death stare or something and it annoys the crap out of me. I'm like "WTF" Im not even Vietnamese!

How is your English? And your accent? Those are the only two things that might really set you apart from anyone. But there are a lot of Indians here

Here in the "West" south east asians are not treated very well at all. This is just one region of what is considered the west. Go to California it is way more liberal then here.

Not all parts of North America are unkind to south east asians. California is more liberal. However New York, Detroit,Chicago, Toronto, St Louis, Monteal, Boston, Philiadephia,Cleveland,Ottawa,Atlanta, Washington DC, Miami, Pittsburgh. Are more liberal parts of the "West" even though they are eastern major cities1 million population and up.

As a whole you are doomed if you go anywhere but in California in North America West. But since all of North America is considered the west by all of south east asia.

EasternNorth America is your best bet for a liberal place,noteableexception is California. Which is hot and has earthquakes but southeast asian people should fit in.

North America is not doing very well at the moment. Best bet Chance it in California. Closest climate to south easternasia?

Unless your accent is very thick (and not understandable), then well (this being a communication issue :P)

If you are currently fluent in American English, then you should have no problems

Heck, look at the Governor of Louisiana(aka deep south)

Well seeing as half of california is asian (:P) I really don't think you will have ahard time fitting in. In most of the US minorities are treated pretty much equally.

You'll be fine. Most states, even conservative ones are fine with people from southeast Asia as long as you have an understandable accent and know english relatively well. The only places that really wouldn't be fine with you would be small, backwater towns in the deep south (or the middle of Pennsylvania :P).

There's a lot of business and schooling opportunity in the west as well.

I'd say most places in southern California, Seattle, Portland, New York, you would be treated like any other. Do not move to any states in the middle of the country. Stick to bigger cities on the coasts.

I was in CA 2 weeks ago and there so many different people I don't think people care.

urban areas in the US are very multiculteral. you should be treated like anyone else around there. rural areas where i live though, racism is still a problem. not even close to as bad as it used to be, but its still around, which is unnacceptable in my opinion.

By 2050 Americans in America are going to be a plurality. BY 2075 Americans will be minorities in America. It's a melting pot. 999 out of 1000 people don't care where you are from because they just got done seeing 178 people from the exact same place 2 minutes ago.

I doubt that most people can distinguish enough at a glance between who is from Central Asia, NorthWest Asia etc.
