Hypothetical situation:
Someone you know wants to commit suicide, but physically can't do it, and has genuinely asked you to do it.
After being certain that the person is serious, and isn't just going through a "phase" you agree and kill them in the least painful way you know.

This isn't a legal question (it's illegal i know, but illegal != immoral),
This is a purely ethical/moral question.

The question is how would you personally rate this morally ?
from 1 to 10,
1 being extremely bad and one of the worst things a human could do.
10 being an extremely noble action
5 being neither morally bad or good

and feel free to post an explanation of your feelings instead of just giving a number

I would say like a 7 (but I'm not really a good person to ask about morals).

If you know that's what they really want, not bad at all. I have a feeling at some point I'll be begging somebody to kill me. I wouldn't want to help kill anyone, or help them kill themselves, because I don't do well with death and I would feel responsible for the grief their loved ones are feeling, even if it was coming anyway.

The reason is pretty freaking important. WHY can't they do it? Is it because they're paraylzed from the neck down, or are we talking about a physically able person who just lacks the balls to do his own dirty work?

If he's serious he would have done it already.

Tell him to sort himself out or get him to a doctor.

From the sounds of it, it's lack-o-balls.

If it was due to some medical condition, I wouldn't hesitate to pull the plug, as I hope that my relatives/friends would if I was in that situation.

But if the person is too much of a pu$$y to do his/her own dirtywork, I probably wouldn't.

I'm not sure how bad that really is, but I'd never do it. I'd feel too guilty.

That's true, you can evaluate the situation where a person is physically unable to do it, and a person who is psychologically unable as separate situations.

I figured if i said physically unable to do that would have skewed the results in favor too much, but at the heart of it that's the main idea. They can't kill themselves.

Edit: i've edited the question so it's less unclear

If this person is terminally ill, assisted suicide is morally justified. If they're severely depressed, then the moral thing to do is stick with them and try to help them through it anyway you can.

1/10. One of the worst things we as human beings can do is lose all hope and give into despair. And to help someone along that path is just as bad, if not worse. Not to mention your actually taking a life, which is wrong even in it's own right

Simply put, a 5. They are dead serious, you want to help them, and there is no good outcome or change of opinion as far as you can tell. It's their life, and there is no debating about that, period. On the other hand, you could have tried more to change their mind. Even if it seems hopeless, still give it your all. You could have simply walked away but you didn't.

In the end, it doesn't make you a bad person. It's not like you are taking their life by force.

1 out of 10. Seriously you shouldn't help someone commit suicide and a person that would ask someone else to kill them is a scumbag and a coward. Now i mean if its like a pull the plug situation then fine but if its someone that is fully able to kill themselves then no its really wrong. If they really want to die let them do it themselves. There are very few things in this world that could prevent a person from killing themselves and we are quite fragile. For the most part the answer would be no.

I'm suprised to see so many less than 3 ratings, I mean the situation mentions they physically can't do it (like paralysed, or an extreme illness), and they're dead serious about wanting their life over (not just on a whim, but for an extended period of time). You're just granting them their wish.

Oh and btw, by saying it's 1 on a moral scale you're saying it's equivalent to raping and killing an innocent child... so although morality is subjective you guys have a pretty f-ed up view.

I find that pretty sick TBH. Why not help your friend with counselling and other things. Why would it be ok to help a mentally ill person do something permanent in their mental state.

2... if he was serious he could jump off of something hight, drown himself in the tub, etc theres a way without asking someone else to kill him... Now if this person is bedridden in the hospital on life support then... 4... I still wouldn't do it though...

If the person was in some sort of insufferable physical pain that had no end in sight then it may be a noble act.

Doing it because the person is suffering some sort of mental anguish is foolish because emotions change.

As already mentioned, if thhe person really wanted to commit suicide, they'd do it themself, so no I would not do it. In a situation where a friend wants to kill him/herself and wants me to do it, I'd just try to help them in whatever way I can and let them know I'm there for them.

1 I don't care if they got their legs amputated I'm not gonna kill them. It makes zero logical sense to me that someone is better off dead than alive. I saw this one movie where I guy saved this girls life but then the girl was crying asking him why didn't you let me die. Yeah I can't think of a real example where it is okay to let someone die or help them die
