Yeah, just so everyone knows.... we're ******. China's technology in weapons, warfare, and communications will have surpassed ours before ten years has passed. With a communist regime, and such a large nation, it will either crumble, or begin to be the most powerful nation of all time, bar none. Just the fact that the amount of cell phone subscribers is much more than the entire population of the United States is chilling. Go look at the statistics...

china probably will be our enemy in 20 odd years because of the situation in taiwan.

anyway the peoples republic of china is just slowly on its way to collapse. the reason they can compete with us is not only because of cheap labor, but is also because the chinese government provides subsidies to businesses. they cant keep doing that forever.

also, the US government spends more than 10 times on defense what the chinese government spends on their defense. with the advent of network centricwarfare and the JDAM weapons system, no army in the world can hope to match us

if china and the US went to war, the US would PWN them. only problem, the insurgency would be hell.

Well, at least there's one other person on these boards who understand the situation with China (especially the collapsing part).

Though about your last point- I don't agree that there would be a massive insurgency. People here in China are much more pragmatic and non-confrontational to do that unless it's extremely serious.

It will be another cold war whose fighting will be done by espionage, politics and propaganda. Neither countries will not participate in a full blown war because they know it will weaken both of their economy allowing other countries to take their place. Both countries are super powers in terms of military and economy and usingbrute force is impractical and expensive compared tospies, diplomats and the media.

Don't forget that most of the money the US spends goes to paying troops salaries. In China however soldiers don't make squat, which means China doesnt need as much military funding.

It would be really bad for us. I think you have to realize war in itself isn't as simple as who has the better military. There are many other factors that would come into play.

Our economy would greatly suffer. The fact of the matter is, we are dependent on China, more then China is dependent on us. We practically import all our most basic goods, from clothes to toothpaste from them. Also, a lot of our technical development work is done in china. I could go on and on about how dependent our economy is to theirs, however I am sure those interested can research that on their own time. Bottom line is, our economy would get hurt a lot, and our presence in the world market would greatly suffer.

Both countries would get owned, not just Chinas. Lets assume this war happened today. This would not be like the Iraq war, where we are losing a handful of soldiers every month. Instead, we would be losing thousands of lives and there would undoubitly be a draft. China is no joke, they actually have a strong military, and arn't going to just sit back and relax. In fact, chances are we would be attacked on our own soil. Have you seen pictures of Iraq? What if that is what it looked like outside your front door? What if one day you were sleeping in your bed, and the next day your neighbor's limps are dangling from side of the house, cause China dropped a bomb on it. No, the war would not be easy, in fact we would both be getting owned. No one ever wins in a war, one side simply loses less.

Now, this is all assuming the war would only be between the United States and China. The reality is, these two nations fighting each other would cause a world war no matter what. It would be a 'with us or against us' situation, where alliances would have to be put into consideration. To be honest, I don't think anyone knows for sure which country would side with which. It would be a war of diplomacy, and as we all know too well, we arn't exactly experts in that field. With the current situation with Russia over the European defense shield, who is to say for sure if Russia would side with us?

Nukes? Well, considering we are the only country in the world to have dropped a nuke on another country. Who is to say we would do it againon a larger scale? Would fear once again drive us to use weapons that can potentially destroy the world? Could we once again use the excuse that. we could have lost the war had we not used it? Only time would tell.

The bottom line is, a war with China would be really bad for us and the rest of the world. Also I think a war with them would be way more complicated then some may think.

It'd be pretty bad, because our economies are very interlinked. From a military standpoint, keep in mind the US spends a helluva lot more than China on the military.

Based on what?

This. As well as many other documents not issued by the US government, but by professors of medicine, technology, communications, and such.

China poised to overtake US in 2020s
(Agencies)
Updated: 2005-02-09 20:21

WASHINGTON- China's unprecedented rise, fueled by foreign investment and technology, has put the Asian giant on a path to surpass the United States economically by 2025, the author of a new book on China said on Tuesday.

U.S. pressure on Chinese authorities to revalue the yuan currency will bring only a brief respite from the fusion of cheap-but-skilled labor, imported technology and economies of scale that make China so competitive, said Oded Shenkar.

His book "The Chinese Century," represents neither a "China-bashing book" nor the 1980s "Japan as Number One genre," the Ohio State University business management professor said.

"The rise of China is a watershed," Shenkar told Reuters in an interview. "I compare it to the rise of the United States in the late 19th century."

Britain, the leading power of that era, did not take its former American colony seriously despite the geopolitical implications of the U.S. emergence. China aims to regain the world preeminence it had before the modern era, he said.

More than becoming a new Japan, "China will be overtaking the United States between 2020 and 2025," Shenkar said.

The Israeli-born researcher said he put China's emergence as the world economic power about two decades earlier than most analysts by measuring purchasing power rather than nominal figures to measure output and growth.

"I believe first of all that the Chinese economy is actually larger than the numbers would suggest," he said.

If were talking one on one fighting in a simulated environment then America will win.The US canvaporize China withnuclear bombs in an instant but thething is, it does not work in real life. The U.S.also need to consider the reactions of other countries or riskbeing alienated.Besides, I don't think majority of americans want to start a nuclear war and that's an avenue that China can exploit through media.

If you mean U.S:

1. They have amassively largermilitary, but are as well equiped as a small militia compared to weapons the U.S has :\

2. Mega-Population: They got more people there every year

3. They make most stuff we buy, it seems

4. China is growing on a massive scale, so I wouldnt be suprised if the U.S and China became the world superpowers

I think that war would be defined as "as serious as it gets." Honestly, the second largest nation. I think that weak(er) weapons en-masse still have a better shot at kicking ***, than dobetter weapons in the hands of acountry ten times smaller, censuswise. I still think the US Government capabilities are overrated. We can't even agree on the smallest issues together. With a country so diverse, we cannot be unified in the absolute, due to religious/social issues with war. A revolution, even from a small country, would be enough to topple the regime of the largest country in the world, if it isn't unified. The country reached its most unified point after 9/11, and even then the communities weren't agreeing on what should be done. This should be enough to motivate countries to think that they can teach us a lesson, and that is what I believe will happen.

China vs. US will be a world-changing event.

I'm guessing that China is going to wait until the US economy collapses because of our massive debts (within the next ten years), and will then strike.

I believe China will not attempt a military offensive, but will instead begin to take control of financial institutions, and other controlling powers until eventually the US infrastructure is controlled by their foreign government.

China already has a history of invading Russia in this manner. It's not a military invasion, it's a social invasion whereby they move in, dominate an area, gain the majority in the population, become elected officials, and basically convert Russian territories into Chinese ones.

That's the thing I'm saying, and if I sound like I'm repeating myself, so be it.

But it has been said that very soon, China will have surpassed USA in all those tech u mentioned, economyis great, and they're about to become the most powerful nation on Earth, while USA slips into another depression.

Only thing wrong with this post. There is a 0% chance China could launch a land invasion of the United States if the war was to happen right now. They have NO navy, not a single aircraft carrier. They would lose their number advatage, as there is no way to move 1 million troops across an ocean rapidly. If there was to be a war right now as you said, it would be in China.

Our Airforce and Navy would systematically rape them. Before a ground war even started, China would have lost most ability to fight. War with the U.S. would also lead to insurgencies in China, pro-democracy groups would take advantage of the turmoil to rise up, causing even further problems for China.

okay, let me explain the situation to you. China has approximately 200 nuclear weapons. not a good thing, but not enough to completely wipe us out. On the other hand, the US has about 10,000 nuclear weapons.

At Minot AFB alone, there are about 140 ICBMs, each of which carry 3 nuclear warheads. each of these warheads has about 35 times the power of the blast that destroyed hiroshima

Our Airforce and Navy would systematically rape them. Before a ground war even started, China would have lost most ability to fight. War with the U.S. would also lead to insurgencies in China, pro-democracy groups would take advantage of the turmoil to rise up, causing even further problems for China.pyroistheone
you have a very good point there

anyone here remember the six day war?

[QUOTE="mig_killer2"][QUOTE="3rd_moon"]It will be another cold war whose fighting will be done by espionage, politics and propaganda. Neither countries will not participate in a full blown war because they know it will weaken both of their economy allowing other countries to take their place. Both countries are super powers in terms of military and economy and usingbrute force is impractical and expensive compared tospies, diplomats and the media.mig_killer2

actually, we can level china in about 30 minutes if we wanted to

Regardless, if we were to make the first move, there goes a sanction from the UN and we're really screwed. Literally evey country would attempt to level US. Now take the nukes of every other civilized nation that has them, and add that to China's nukes. I think it's pretty fair game now.

there is only 1 nation on earth that can hope to match our nuclear arsenal, and that is the Russian federation. chinas nuclear arsenal is no where near as big as ours

You are missing my point. If we were to make the first move, with any kind of military act without the grace of the UN, we would be sanctioned, thus effectivvely kicking us out of the UN and sending all hell on top of the United States. Our nuclear weapons would do damage, sure, but not before military action was taken to destroy our government. A unified United Nations would effectively leave us lying dead in the water.

Ok, let's see here. China has the biggest military in the world, but it is no where close to the power of the American military. So right now, there wouldn't be any problem. In 20 years, China's economic boom will help them catch up a bit, but they'll still be heavily dependent on oil while the rest of the world moves on to a new source of energy and might collapse. So either way, there's not much toworry about. For me, I don't have to worry about anyway because Portugal is China's friendbecause of a former Portuguese territory.

Knowing my own countries habbits of having allies turn to enemies very quickly I think a war with china will be inevitable...

but we could surely avoid it if we all buy american made products

It does'nt take a rocket scientist to figure out that the worlds superpowers in the next century will be the US and China.

If we were to go to war with them now. That would suck. They have so many troops they could kayak over here and kick our ass with shear numbers.

China is currently in the process of modernizing their military so if we needed to go to war with them now is the time to do it. Because in the next 20 years we would be fighting a huge military with technology comparable to us. I don't think I need to say that this is BAD.

And I like chinese food so I really hope they don't become our enemy.

shear numbers dont work when you dont have control of the skies. not only is the USAF the best air force, it is the biggest air force.

uhhhhhhhhh, no:lol:

we have the worlds best army, the worlds best navy, and the worlds best air force. china can not hope to match us. BTW, we have about 50 times as many nuclear weapons, and some of those are as powerful as 10 million tons of TNT
