From UK, just curious to know is it that big of a sport over there? Do kids play it in schools? Do you yourself often play? Do you support a team and/or attend games?

Kids play it in school, but usually grow bored of it by the time they are in high school... and as far as I know no one really watches it...

It's pretty big as far as schools go. But as a pro sport it's behind NFL, MLB, NBA, NASCAR, NHL, Golf etc in popularity

Not...thread over Serioulsy though, not that popular...even though many people like it - I would say more play than watch...which is a good thing -it ranks behind Football (American), basketball, baseball, nascar, golf, and mma...probably a little better than Hockey as far as watching interest goes

I like to play any sport that involves intense physical activity, but I'm mostly partial to the contact sports. I. Love.(American) Football.

Not a whole lot. The MLS (Major League Soccer) has kinda picked up steam, but compared to other sports here it's pretty low in popularity.

People like Soccor here, especially when it comes to schools and what not but as far as fan base, I have no clue. I know that people like to watch it and support teams but not as much as the UK or Spain.

Kids play it in leagues here in Canada, but no its not that big as far as people watching it. Mostly kids are enrolled in hockey and mostly everybody watches hockey.

Contrary to others beliefs it is the most played sport in the US, however it is virtually ignored on the professional level until there is a big tournament or World Cup.

Popular sport to play in the early years, professional/college isn't watched though. Overall not very popular.

But the Mexicans in my family and most of my Mexican friends watch it :P

I don't think so. Basketball is higher up and golf is way down. Replace Figure skating with MMA/Boxing(The two should be hand in hand).

It's about as big as Hopscotch and Duck Duck Goose. Kids play it, then move on to other activities as they grow older.

It's behind football (pro and college), basketball (pro and college), baseball, NASCAR, MMA, golf, most likely hockey and defintely behind poker when it comes to tv ratings. And other things like XGames. So basicially anything that actually gets viewers ranks higher than soccer.

I'd say its gaining popularity

it seems like sports popularity goes like this in the US:

1. American Football
2. Baseball
3. Basketball
4. MMA/Boxing
5. Golf
6. Soccer

A couple years ago I dont think anyone watched soccer unless there was nothing on, but now I see people watching it all the time

er, soccers big over here. our national team is strong because there really is a vested interest in the sport. ESPNs started showing some EPL games (hd = drool) because of the demand for the sport. i think its biggest in ohio for some reason. btw liverpool fan in ny speaking.

Alright to get it back on topic

No soccer is not very popular in America, but it is definately growing. Its starting to pick up steam though, you can tell because espn is starting to show EPL and La liga games on espn. Earlier this year though the US beat Spain, the best team in the world at the time, in the Fifa confederation cup, then proceeded to take second in the cup against Brazil, and most of America was unaware.

Personally soccer is one of my favorite sports up there with basketball because i prefer the fast paced sports.

agreed, i tried to watch an NFL game shown on BBC and it was just so stop start, stop start, no fluidity in the play at all. USA did brilliantly in confederations cup, but the competiton has for some reason no recognition (even in UK) despite the quality of football played beingon a par with the WC.

No one cares about it. If anything, it's the butt of a ton of jokes. We play it in elementary through high school, but after that we couldn't care less for it.

Better than hockey? That's completely untrue. Hockey's been on on the rise lately. I'm not sure fi you remember this but before boring Devils hockey took over and the lock out Hockey was immensely popular. Soccer was never popular on the US television. Soccer is played but I know very few people who watch it professionally.
