So I'm pretty miserable at my current job and I want out. I don't have anything else lined up yet so I was considering trying to get fired so that I can collect umemployment.
Any ideas on what I can do? Please, nothing crazy or illegal.

you collect umemployment after being fired? dude... quit being a waste of life and do something you enjoy while making money. Dont do anything stupid. Premier1101
A waste of life? Because I don't enjoy my job? Obviously you're too young to have experienced the real world. Not everyone can find their dream job. Sometimes you gotta take what you can get and make ends meet. But you'll find that out soon enough.
Can be difficult to collect unemployment if you are fired. Of course, it varies from state to state.
If you are fired and then file, a smart employer will challenge it. The state unemployment agency will then start a basic probe as to why. if you were fired for misconduct or any other reason, especially if the employer gave you a warning, you will be denied benefits.
I challenge every one that crosses my desk. So far, I am batting 100% for the year. Four claims, four denials.

They fired this lady who was a complete piece of trash. She filed for umemployment and they gave it to her. I've been here longest so I doubt they'll challenge it.

Plenty of people hate their job. The only reason they keep is so they can put food on the table for X number of mouths to feed in the household. If you want the dishonorable way of doing this, go for it. Be happy with your terrible decision.

I work for young company that doesn't always follow proper protocol. They just want as little hassle as possible.

I havent got my dream job set up yet, but I'm not complaining. Jobs are temporary, careers are for life. My career isnt in banking or grocery sacking ;)
I dont want to flame you, but try harder

Dishonorable? Dude, I don't live in futile Japan. I don't care about honor. I'm an American. We sold our honor a long time ago.

Get a new job.
Seriously, If you don't like your current situation, find a new job. I would be pissed the **** off if I was paying taxes that go towards your unemployment because you don't like your job. Cry about it. I have had numerous jobs I hated with a passion, yet I worked there because I need money. Grow up.
Why not go off with a bang?
Go to work in a giant rubber chicken suit half drunk, but still sober enough to memorize witty one-liners that you can use for when your boss asks you just what the heck you're doing.
You could also make out with him/her and get slapped with a sexual harrasment suit...oooo fun!

As I said, it varies from state to state. Plus, a lot of employers don't know they can challenge or don't want to mess with it. I was surprised how easy it was to challenge the claim.
One was caught smoking pot on the job, another threatened a supervisor, another was caught sleeping, and one was jsut plain lazy.

Supposedly, in my state, you can check to see how many unemployment claims a potential hire has filed. Never done it though but I heard it exists and in a well organized HR department can make or break a possible job.

Just because we live in a America doesn't mean we don't have any form of honor. As I said, do whatever makes you sleep at night. I won't be crying over other people's poor decisions.

Yup. Supervisor gave him a written warning but he was just a little too complacent.
Don't need people like that driving up our unemployment insurance. The way I figure it, the company bankrolled his laziness long enough, no point in paying for his unemployment too.
Make embarassing photoshopped pics of your boss and stuck them up all over your workspace.
It would get you fired most likely, and it would be fun for all :)
Or you could just not turn up for like 3 days, and on the fourth turn up drunk....that would probably work.
He's right; don't get fired for misconduct. You have to get fired for poor performance. That way, the unemployment agency views it like you want to work but you're just too stupid. :DCan be difficult to collect unemployment if you are fired. Of course, it varies from state to state.

doesn't unemployment also depend of the reason you got fired. like if you got caught for stealing, I don't think you'd be eligible for unemployment.Ontain
Yup. But when you file for unemployment you can check whichever box you want. Actually how I discovered it could be challenged. Guy got fired for something or other, put 'lack of work' as the reason for his termination.
I wrote a letter to go on record saying that was not the reason. Got a call askng if that was my challenge, I said 'Uh, yeah'. He was denied. And that is how it all started.

yep. happened to a guy at a previous job i had as well. he got denied too. if a company allows many ppl to get unemployment their rates for Unemployment insurance goes up. so if they really fire you for a bad reason then they will challenge.
