I've never understood how parents can ground their kids, i mean why cant you just ignore your parents, if you just walk out of the house they cant stop you so why do you obey?

EDIT: i didn't mean running away i just meant if your friends invite you to see a movie for example and you are grounded you can just walk out and go i wasnt talking about running away from home

Yes they can stop you. Until you're 18, you're your parents property.

Physically restrain you and stop you from leaving. They can also call the cops and have you brought back.

They can physically stop you as long as it doesn't turn into abuse; such as them punching you in the face to stop you from leaving. If they can't physically stop you they can call the police so they can bring you back.

Fact of the matter is your parents are paying for your room and board from when you are born until you move out. If a child doesn't like it he can go to the court and try to get legally emancipated. However, they need to be prepared to take care of themselves at that point.

Most kids go through that rebellious phase during their teen years. I did it too. When you get older you'll see how silly you were and will feel like you're getting hit with karma when your kids do it to you.

in the real world there's a good chance that the majority of peoples that are willing to sacrifice their own happiness, freedom, time, food and anything else they have, to get you ahead in life, will be your parents. you would do well to recognize and appreciate that.

Most 5 year old's can figure out that mom and dad make the rules and if they don't obey them, they get punished.

Contemplate this on the Tree of Woe.

Dude its about respecting your parents because they are your parents. Parents are able to ground you because they are your parents and they are trying to discipline to shape you. But of course there are such a thing as poor parents that mistreat their children in various ways, so that is a very big problem. So the answer is alot more complicated, the answers to these kind of questions inevitabley go very deep and rightly so.

[QUOTE="DJ_Lae"]Parenting worked better when the children got a bit of a beating. Today's youth are soft and spoiled because there are little to no consequences for them being gigantic douches.thah-dude
Your incredibly ignorant, i suggest you read up on how harmful beating children is. I would recommend starting with The Origins Of War In Child Abuse, it is free and available online.

Not a full on thrashing, but the threat of actual consequences. There are other ways of dealing with kids who have an issue with boundaries but most of today's parents are far too lenient, leading to teenagers who think it's their god given right to get their way all the time.

Lmao. What a sensitive, spoiled, suburbian kid like you calls "beating", I call discipline. You're definitely in need of discipline.

Ah, I get it, your parents beat you and thats why your such a fked up person
