I'm asking about physically looking intelligent. I overheard someone today saying so and so looks smart. What physical characteristics make a person look intelligent? It wasn't like this person had glasses, suspenders and a pocket protecter with braces. Can anyone describe what a smart person looks like?

Wear glasses and a stylish suit with a collar, and smile knowingly a lot. Also, you should be drawn as an anime-character or the former probably won't work.

I'd have to say it's simple association.  Take the features of somebody you respect as being smart.  Now if somebody else has similar features you're going to associate those with being smart.
