this is a thing i noticed in school, there is a typical jock type guy, he has that "i dont care attitude" and yet he does high level math and is acing his french but when you talk to him he seems like one of those typical idiots who think of nothing but sports, then there that guy who is smart, doesnt seem to show it, he is well spoken and knows everything about everything yet he does the low level stuff, why?

Well, there's book smarts, street smarts and all kinds of other "smarts", right? Just because math and learning a language comes naturally to someone, doesn't mean they're eloquent or learned about other matters.

People always talk about IQ and not so much about EQ. Fact is, EQ will get you further in life than IQ.

Yup. Also "smart" and "stupid" are not entirely black and white.

They probably act that way so people will perceive them that way.

People are a lot more complex and varied than that.

Not every 'smart' guy is going to be out doing 'smart' things at all times, and not every 'dumb' guy is going to be out doing 'dumb' things at all times. There are also many, MANY different facets and types of intelligences, and there is also something to be said about the amount of effort one is willing to put into things. There are lots of lazy 'smart' people and hard-working 'dumb' people, but you'll find that it is difficult to rely on just hard work (or just natural intelligence).

Yep. Combination of both hard work and natural intelligence is a lethal combo.

I think most people in high school can achieve high grades in any class. Its just a matter of wanting too and putting effort into it.

Knowledge vs. wisdom. Some people are very rational when it comes to common logical, but struggle with complex algorithms. On the flip side, there are also individuals who swiftly understand complex problems albeit lack the basic skills needed to convey their intellect in a practical sense.

Just because people act a certain way doesn't mean they are smart or stupid. Just because somebody is smart doesn't mean they have to be skinny, nerdy, and wear pocket protectors.

Yeah but I noticed that smart people (or people with high IQs) are more likely to work hard. That being said grades are only based 25% on IQ.

I don't think there's some set percentage that you can put on grades:IQ... Not every school, or even class even has the same grading structure..

Also, I don't know where you got the high IQ = hardworker...

The grades you get are based on the questions that are asked. You could be an incredibly good mathematician but that won't help you with an English paper. Also there was a general consensus that has been proven many times between the smart people at my college and HS that you didn't need to be clever to get an A you just had to revise, the only exception i can think of is A level math. Plenty of people have gotten As by memorisation without the need to use any actual intelligence, written communication gets a sizeable bias too.

Emotional intelligence, personally i'ld say SQ is more of the active factor with EQ being a part of it. The top jobs are all management positions.

Pretty much this. Get to know the guy and you might realise he's pretty smart. Same with well spoken guy, he could be a total idiot. It's sort of the same thing with me. People who meet me in class think I'm an intelligent yet reserved person, whilst people I meet at parties think I'm wild. They always get surprised when they see me in a different environment.

They're just hired actors. That can't actually happen in real life.
