Africans in Beijing harassed as Olympics approach

BEIJING — Chinese police officials have forced some Beijing bar owners to sign secret pledges promising to prohibit blacks from entering their bars during the Olympics next month, a Hong Kong newspaper says.

The police denied the report Friday, and most bars denied any knowledge of the pledges. But many African residents of Beijing say they are facing harassment from police and discrimination from bars as the Olympics approach.

Maybe China bribed the committee enought that they picked China as the future olympics site, half their economy relies on the olympics now.

I know blacks that moved out there and have had a good experience. But you know...things can change. I'm going to have to connect with them and see what's going on.

Actually I'm pretty sure China will make titanic loses from the Olympics, just like pretty much every nation/city does.

They can afford to do it because the Chinese government has the greatest surplus in the history of mankind. No government has ever been richer, except mabye America post WWII with the massive arms trade it was doing.

Its not about the money to China. Its still about the prestige. They may be capitalist now, but they still think like old-style commies, shows of power mean EVERYTHING to them.

And yeah, I am worried about China in Africa. I am also worried about them in the pacific. They are doing the exact same thing, except Japan and Taiwan are competing with them. The pickings aren't as great, but China is DEFINITELY artificially forcing their sphere of influence larger and opening up markets that will gain no practical benefits from exlusive trade rights with China.

And thats what its all about. China will take what they want with money, and then create markets that are China-friendly and ensure total market dominance. Free trade with China is madness, I can't believe my country actually singned a freetrade deal with them.

We really dont rely on China that much. If China just disappeared the only thing that would de different is Wal-Mart. They rely on us so much more. Who do you think buys their products?

Chinas a big bully. They are harassing Taiwan , then Tibet and now Africa. WWIII is unavoidable.

This make sit that much more heartbreaking for me because a close friend of mine is Chinese and she is the most innocent girl I ever saw. DOWN WITH THE GOVERNMENT !

first of all the olympics shouldnt even be in china.

Not a huge Olympic fan, but it is good to see the world come together everytime they happen. But as these games get closer and closer I wonder why the )(#@)#(@#( did China get them in the first place?
