Really? I like it, it shows they have their attention on me. I absolutely hate it when a female doesn't look me in the eye when discussing anything.

You're just not used to it. You just have to find the right balance. Too much and you seem weird. Not enough and you seem awkward.

I use to have a problem with looking people in the eye. Especially when people tried to talk to me seriously, I'd always laugh for some reason until I looked away from their eyes. I don't have that problem any more though. Sometimes when I'm on the bus I like to stare at strangers' eyes just to freak them out. Some of them stare back, usually in a friendly way.

Eh, I just avoid eye contact altogether. Avoids awkwardness and creates it all together. I like being a mystery.

I'm getting better at it.. when I first tried I thought it would be impossible for me to ever maintain eye contact but after a week I got it. Try focusing on one or start with just the eyebrow and move to the eyes. I like to imagine their eyes as candy or diamonds or something so its not so scary.

I hate it when teachers look me in the eyes when they're teaching a class, especially if its more than a second or two. Other than that I don't have a problem with it.

A professor did that with me yesterday and I had to make much effort to keep my composure. A few seconds is fine but once the tenth second hit I was freaking out. But back to the original question, I was once this way and still am to an extent. However, after gaining some confidence in social situations the problem has not been so bad.

I don't mind people staring at me, sometimes. Even though it's a bit odd. Depending on the kind of stare, I either ignore them or stare back.

Unless you are looking for some sort of immediate contact with the person I would not suggest looking at eyes. It is not safe.
If, however, you want some unsafe contact, go right ahead.

As a guideline, look into a person's eyes 50% of the time when you're talking and 75% of the time when you're listening. When not looking into their eyes, don't let them dart around. Rather, glance at other parts of their face or upper body.

Perhaps you're naturally shy, a bit timid, or you must really get nervous around beautiful girls. It's normal, but don't let it become a habit. Chicks can easily tell if a man lacks confidence and self-esteem. Man up or get stood up. :P

It makes me unconfortable as well. It also depends on how I'm feeling at the time. Sometimes I feel more confident and it's easier. It really comes down to confidence. The funny part is I don't look like a person who would have trouble with this type of thing.

I hear ya man, I'm the same way. I can make eye contact but I've kinda gotta force myself. I'll usually glance away, and shift back especially if we're talking for a long time. Staring for this looooooong time just strikes me as really awkward

I use to have this teacher who'd get right up in my face and stare directly into my eyes, uh uh. She needed to back it up with all that lol :P

Move to japan where it's rude to look in the eyes.

Anywho, I once did that but now I look straight in the eyes of people I talk to.

Yep, it's so awkward to look at someone in the eyes for a long time. It's not weird if it's like a short conversation or something but it's pretty weird if it's really long and you stare the whole time.

It happens to me also, I was more self aware of it when I was younger, today it still happens but less so. I think we can all get better with practice, once you identify your problem, just work on fixing it, next time, instead of staring for ... 3 seconds and then moving your eye away, try 6 seconds, blinking helps in this situation also. I highly doubt this is a problem exclusive to you.

You're just not used to it. You just have to find the right balance. Too much and you seem weird. Not enough and you seem awkward.

Bubble_Man

^this, it needs to be a mix of looking them in the eye and looking at other stuff too~ i used to be the same way, it just takes practice and getting used to it as well. self confidence helps alot and the better you get at it the more self confidence you will have~
