...They don't like any other Hip Hop artists
I hear that a lot and I never understood it. I see that on here especially. Anyone wanna explain whats up with that :?

Because I like Eminem.....But I don't like Lil' Wayne. Do you mean like that? Or someone who likes Eminem but hates EVERY other hip-hop artist?GrandJuryThe latter, I always wondered this too. Because Eminem is good, but people here overrate him badly.
Its because eminem plays with pop culture and politics in his lyrics.
He always has that one pop-rap song that has a catchy chorus and is talk junk about someone in the media. He is a decent rapper though but i stop listen to him years after his second album. I think he is crazy.
Eminem stands out though lol and he appeals to the angry white males like yours truly!! I don't want to sound racist but the other type of rapper, with his bling blings and the clock around his neck with his spinning hub caps has become a cliche to point of self parody. biggest_loserYeah but Eminem wouldn't exist if not for the work of so many artists from the 90's and 80's...I mean how could people listen to Eminem and not even D12, or Dr. Dre and then move on from there. That's how I got into Hip Hop. I got into NWA, then I got into Ice Cube and Dr. Dre and I moved on and on from there. I don't see how people fixate only on Eminem. I'm a huge Eminem fan and I just don't get it
[QUOTE="biggest_loser"]with his bling blings and the clock around his neck with his spinning hub capsTheHimuralmao, it's 2009 not 1989 mang. Perhaps you need to see P Diddy's fragrance ad then?! lol! Look it up on youtube: "I am King".
He's gotten more exposure from mainstream media outlets than any other rapper in the last ten years. More attention means more listeners, and more listeners leads to more fans.
[QUOTE="biggest_loser"]with his bling blings and the clock around his neck with his spinning hub capsTheHimuralmao, it's 2009 not 1989 mang. Yeah I don't know why people think hip hop is so superficial these days. It was wayyyyyyy more superficial back in the 80's and 90's.

Well I mean, at least these days, rappers know it's funny to wear big chains and some wear them ironically.
example:
T-Pain with the best chain ever.
perhaps they only like white rappers perhaps they hate black people in general isn't that what you want to hearShatin
Thats kinda true too. Eminem also appeals to a generation of white youths. They like his music because they can relate. Blacks and other minorities like him because he know he is white in an ethnic genre of music and has fun with the subject. He does is thing and stand out without talking junk about other rappers.
[QUOTE="GrandJury"]I miss DMX....Ace_WondersXwhy did you have to remind me how good he use to be? :(

If there's a lot of people that can relate to Eminem's music I'm kind of afraid He's amazing but the stuff he talks about, I hope no one has to go through some of that[QUOTE="Ace_WondersX"][QUOTE="GrandJury"]I miss DMX....TheHimurawhy did you have to remind me how good he use to be? :( Your sig reminds me that I still need to bump Church League Champions... Not the case with me. I like him because he's actually good. And I'm black. :P
Not to mention, hip hop and rap are a bit the same, but Eminem leans more towards rap because he's literally using poetry, which is rap but more complex.
I always thought rap was just a portion of Hip Hop which is the general culture Eminem is one of the best lyriscists though and I've heard a lot of Hip Hop. Few can top Eminem lyrically in the 21st century.I feel like rap and hip-hop are pointless distinctions when it comes to the actual music. When discussing the culture of hip-hop (graffiti, breakdancing, etc.) that's fine, but when discussing JUST music, it's stupid to make a difference between the two. The general public seem to think rap is always mainstream garbage while hip-hop is underground and whatnot, but I disagree completely. They're completely synonymous in my books.TheHimuraWordage Just on a tangent here, I hate music elitists, especially those who find the most underground ass Hip Hop artists and then parade him around like the messiah. Cyne and Immortal Technique seem to get that treatment a lot.

Because I like more than one of his songs, and his lyrics are funny and crazy. He doesn't use the generic "n-word" every other damn line like most rappers seem to do nowadays. Also, I can understand a good amount of what he is saying, and he doesn't sound like someone who talks in ebonics 24 hrs. a day. There are other rap songs I like, but no rap artist comes close to Eminem to me. I'm not a huge Eminem fan either, he's just one of the few I can stand.

I saw some spinning hub caps yesterday. It didn't even have all of them.
Even so there are tons of Hip Hop artists like that ATCQ, Mos Def, Brother Ali, etc.Because I like more than one of his songs, and his lyrics are funny and crazy. I've listened to some Mose Def songs and haven't really liked any of them, and haven't heard of any of the others. I'm not a big rap fan though, so I probably am not a good person to go by for opinions. I only usually like 1 or 2 songs from a rap artist except for Eminem.
Oh yea, and I don't relate to Eminem or anything like that with his lyrics. I just listen to his songs for pure enjoyment. I either like a song, no matter who it is, or I don't.
[QUOTE="the_new_guy_92"]It's pretty simple... I'm going to use the Big L/Eminem comparison because admit it, Eminem is the white Big L. America is majority white, most people listen to music they can relate to. Big L and Eminem are almost identical except Big L rapped from the perspective of an angry black kid and Eminem rapped from the perspective of an angry white kid. Most white kids would never be able to relate to the fear that one day you could be pull over by a cop for nothing and be accidentally gunned down, like Big L rapped about. But they can relate to Eminem talking about growing up around nothing but blacks and not fitting in or not getting along with his parents. It not race related maliciously as in they hate blacks, but they just relate better to what the white guy is saying. Toriko42Yeah this is most likely the best thing I've heard
That's a good theory, but most people I know who like Eminem have had fine childhoods and good parents. They, like me, just like the way the song sounds or some crazy ass stuff he says.
[QUOTE="SilentSoprano"]Yeah it'd be really weird to relate to some Eminem songs like...Oh yea, and I don't relate to Eminem or anything like that with his lyrics. I just listen to his songs for pure enjoyment. I either like a song, no matter who it is, or I don't.

Yea that song is pretty **** up... the songs I like are Lose Yourself, Beautiful, Stan, The Real Slim Shady, Crack a Bottle, Like Toy Soldiers, When I'm Gone.
Do you ever see him on like Late Night shows getting interviewed? He always looks so pissed off and stuff. It's weird.
