One of my old dogs just passed away and i feel bad about being seperated from his remains so i decided to bury him in my backyard, he wasnt very big either. I did some research, stating to bury at least 3 feet, in double wrapped bags sealed tight so this is what i did in my own little funeral ceremony. Has anyone done this before? I am just worried about smelling the decomp or any possible toxic gases but i dont think its likely in my opinion buried 3.5 feet in the ground. Someone who has done this, some feedback would be nice, thanks.

At least 3 feet deep, possibly a bit more. In some sort of tupperware or container crating (curver boxes and such) if possible. Stake straight down to the box.

Whenever one of my cats would die, we would wrap them in a towel (an old beach towel works fine) and bury him or her about four feet down.

I think you owe it to a pet to bury them as deep as possible, it would be very disgraceful if your pet were to come back to the surface accidentally...it deserves to rest easy down there

when we buried my dog, i think we just had him wrapped in a towel. i'd say it was about 3 feet deep that we buried him, maybe a little more, and that was years ago and it's been fine. can't even tell where he was buried.

6 feet for Humans, but I guess it all depends on level of respect and local soil erosion conditions for pets/animals.

I honestly wouldn't have gone with the air-tight bags or containers... If you're putting him in the ground, a blanket, perhaps his favourite blanket or rug would do.
Think about it... if the elements can't reach his remains, it's um... going to become a bit smelly should the container/bag ever breach.

I'm terribly sorry for the loss of your companion. It's awful to lose a pet. *hugs*

Dumpsters are about 4 and a half feet deep...so I will go with that
-though I have no idea where they will end up in the landfill

I don't understand why you had to seal it tight? personally if i were to bury a pet i would allow it to decompose in the ground so that it would return to nature.

You might want to check with your municipality as some do not allow random animal burials, even on your own property. Scavenging animals can attempt to dig the animal up. Decaying animal bodies can enter the groundwater and spread disease. Digging randomly may cause you to hit power, gas, water, or other infrastructure.

I've never let a pet die at my house before. I always had them put down and let the vet do their thing.

My roommate and I had to dig a grave for his girlfriend's cat. I'd say it was about 3x3x3 hole. It was also the execution chamber mind you, so we made it a little bigger for brain splatter and me booting all over the place after I saw the cat's head explode.

As deep as possible then sealed in concrete. We don't want to risk having a pet zombie apocalypse. When your brains aren't being eaten you will thank me...

Oh no offense taken, he is true somewhat about the title.

I know that the utility lines are in the fornt yard so im not worrying about contaminating any water supplies. I was curious about the sealed bag thing but thats what i kept coming accross online so i went and did it but im guessing as the gases try to escape from decomposition, the bag will break anyways.

Thanks for the sympathies =]
